Position Description

Central Piedmont is in search of an Online Services Librarian for the Central Campus. Central Piedmont Community College Library is committed to supporting student, faculty and staff with the best possible information services at each of its physical campus locations, as well as with a robust slate of online services.  We directly support and strengthen teaching and learning by continually developing innovative student and learning-centered collections, services, and environments that lead to life-long educational development. The library opened a new state-of-the-art Central Campus Library in 2022. The new library supports instruction with two flexible classrooms, a faculty hub, a new archives and space for consultations and one-on-one research appointments. Our new makerspace with video and audio recording studios will offers additional opportunities for library instruction and support of student assignments.

General Function

This position manages and coordinates all library web services, projects, and initiatives and provides administrative support in the department of Resource Services, including supervision and responsibility for special projects and directing the workflow of other full and part-time staff in the Resource Services area.

 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provides leadership and coordination for all library electronic access needs. Makes and updates relevant policies and coordinates social media outreach with other library personnel.

2. Manages and updates content on the library website. Coordinates with the library Marketing committee and other library areas to promote events, programs, and services; coordinates with CMPR (college marketing) to maintain and enhance library website.

3. Supports online discovery of library resources via the discovery solution (currently Summon), including regular maintenance and updates, such as adding new resources as needed.

4. Investigates, documents, troubleshoots and resolves access problems, issues and errors for library users. Coordinates interactions with vendor technical support and liaises with college IT services. Communicates issues or outages to stakeholder groups as they arise, as well as resolutions.

5. Coordinates with the library Knowledge Management Committee (KM) to manage the LibApps suite of products.

6. Collects, analyses and reports usage statistics to assist with collection development and other library reporting needs.

7. Makes updates to the proxy server as needed to ensure online access for on campus and remote users.

8. Designs and offers training on electronic resources in conjunction with the library’s training committee.

9. Assists patrons in researching and accessing information from all library collections.

10. Assists with the library’s digital literacy initiatives, including providing digital literacy support to students, staff, and faculty.

11. Self-directs in learning and keeps up with current practices and technology for job responsibilities.

12. Performs professional responsibilities in accordance with pertinent missions, goals, objectives and policies of the library and the college.

13. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Characteristics

* Demonstrate independent judgment and in-depth knowledge in interpreting and applying college and library policies and procedures
* Mastery of ILS modules and library related software modules and computer applications
* Manage troubleshoot and resolve library web and OPAC software and hardware issues
* Proficiency in popular web graphics authoring tools such as Adobe suite, Articulate, Captivate and Word Press
* Trains, oversees, and provides leadership to full and part-time library staff for technology use, including web design, and database maintenance
* Thorough understanding of print and electronic information resources and research procedures
* Develop and maintain excellent relationships/partnerships with external vendors and college units (IT, procurement, academic)
* Participates in meetings and events required by the college and library administrators and contributes in staff and committee meeting discussions to address issues and resolve problems
* Ability to work well with individuals with diverse backgrounds
* Excellent customer service skills
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary for this position is $47,817 - $60,415. Pay grade for this position is L. Initial placement for new employees is customarily at entry level through 25% percentile. Contract type is Professional. Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include off-shift hours, evening and weekend assignments may be required of any position. All positions are subject to budget approval.
