Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
  • Three (3) years’ experience in Recruitment, ideally Community Outreach Recruitment.
  • Excellent follow-up, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to develop solutions for a variety of recruiting needs and works on projects to support growth of the Community Outreach Recruitment program.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to carry the communication at all levels
  • Must be willing to travel locally around the community.

Position Description

The Outreach Recruiter will conduct outreach efforts resulting in the establishment and maintenance of Workforce and Community Partnerships. Working with the current, local and regional agencies, the Outreach Recruiter plans, coordinates, and implements outreach strategies and activities, as well as represents the College to external constituents. The Outreach Recruiter will create new community outreach opportunities showcasing College program and course offerings with the goal of generating student leads resulting in increased student enrollment.

Strong preference for someone located in Surry and Yadkin counties. There will be frequent travel throughout the region, specifically Surry, Yadkin and neighboring Virginia counties, as well as other key markets as needed. The recruiter should be prepared to work days, nights and weekends as they travel to local, regional and out-of-state events to recruit students. The position requires flexibility of schedule to meet outreach effort demands.

Duties and Responsibilies:

  1. Develop community education programs and activities to increase and improve educational awareness, including managing information booths at outreach events.
  2. Develop and support a community engagement program to maintain a pipeline of SCC student applicants.
  3. Provide access to first generation underrepresented students who are not likely to pursue higher education.
  4. Identify and recruit high school drop out population in Surry and Yadkin counties.
  5. Work with admissions staff to coordinate assigned activities with other programs, departments, and outside agencies and organizations.
  6. Develops opportunities to host, sponsor, or conduct information sessions for potential students and organize/participate in SCC sponsored events and activities to develop industry and community contacts.
  7. Develops new and nurtures existing relationships between SCC and workforce partners within assigned territory.
  8. Make connections with appropriate staff to provide workforce preparation and job readiness initiatives for students, including work-based learning, apprenticeships, and internships.
  9. Refers students to appropriate outside community agencies as for guidance and support.
  10. Assist Academic Affairs in developing individual program recruitment plans; promote and maintain awareness of all college programs, including continuing education & curriculum, and other student services.
  11. Provides information about various types of financial aid, and provide assistance with the completion of applications for financial aid.
  12. Assist Marketing in the development of print and video recruiting materials.
  13. Expose students to multiple career and educational opportunities.
  14. Work with Workforce, Technology, and Community Education (WTCE) Directors and curriculum Chairs to determine low enrollment program areas.
  15. Communicate with SCC’s Business & Industry Department and the Division of Workforce Solutions for job placement needs.
  16. Conduct follow-up with prospective students and parents via telephone, e-mail, and virtual meetings to determine their educational needs, concerns, interests, and career options.
  17. Incorporate strategic planning methods to ensure accurate program placement for students.
  18. Utilize data tracking software to identify and measure student recruitment efforts.
  19. Assist with planning and facilitating recruiting activities for the College to include, but are not limited to, open house events, information sessions, campus tours, and off-site recruiting booths/presentations.
  20. Closely assist and mentor new students through the admissions and enrollment process, including advising, placement testing administration, and registration for first-time students.
  21. Engage prospective students via in-person and virtual meetings, telephone, and e-mail communication to encourage campus visits and completion of the admissions and enrollment processes, and be knowledgeable to answer educational-related questions.
  22. Participate in prospective student yield and retention efforts by maintaining productive contact with active prospective students throughout enrollment.
  23. Actively participate in special promotional recruiting activities.
  24. Prepare and distribute packets of information to the service area, businesses, industries, civic organizations, local chambers, and the Workforce Board as needed for job market payoff.
  25. Utilize and maintain various student information systems and technology to track and communicate with prospective students and applicants.
  26. Maintain awareness of new developments in fields of study offered at Surry Community College through professional development and networking on campus.
  27. Plan and implement regularly scheduled multi-campus College information sessions.
  28. Provide weekly or as requested status updates and reports about application pool and recruiting activities to management and leadership.
  29. Demonstrate professionalism through collaboration, proficient communication, deft organizational skills, and outstanding customer service for internal and external clients.
  30. Serve as an ambassador for Surry Community College among diverse populations.
  31. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Admissions and/or the Dean of Student & Workforce Services.
