Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with recent teaching or tutoring experience
  • Flexible schedule to meet student demand for tutoring times
  • Willingness to work at other locations
  • Creativity, flexibility and openness to change
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in using multiple computer applications and commitment to the use of technology in instruction
  • Ability to work effectively and collaborate with others in a team environment
  • Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college

Summary:

The Part-time Biology Coach position is a part-time position responsible for assisting students with their subject area of expertise. Primary duty includes providing assistance designed to promote student success. The coach collaborates with faculty to help increase awareness of services offered on both campuses by the Learning Commons and to assist in development of skills and confidence necessary for academic success. This position reports directly to the Director, Learning Commons.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing the daily operation of the Biology coaching center
  • Maintain current knowledge of subject area assigned
  • Maintain open, robust, and timely communication with colleagues and supervisor
  • Provide assistance to students both onsite and online as requested by the Director, Learning Commons
  • Cross refer students to other Learning Commons coaching centers, academic support workshops, and other campus resources and services as needed and appropriate
  • Lead Academic Support Workshops in classes and virtually when appropriate and assigned by the Director, Learning Commons
  • Assist in other coaching centers as needed and as appropriate
  • Maintain appropriate paperwork and documentation including that needed for FTE recording and audit purposes
  • Monitor the proper usage of facilities
  • Collaborate with faculty concerning students’ academic progress and needs
  • Assist in recommending appropriate resources for the coaching center
  • Assist in promoting awareness of the Learning Commons coaching centers among faculty, staff, and students
  • Collaborate with the Learning Commons staff to develop meaningful evaluations of services and use data to inform decision making processes
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the College mission and initiatives
