Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Library Science or equivalent from an American Library Association accredited program, required
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of library experience preferred, preferably in a community college library or learning resources center, preferred
- Academic preparation or experience relevant to applications of technology in an academic institution; experience in instructional design, preferred
Position Description
Statement of Primary Purpose
In support of the overall Learning College the Part-time Evening Librarian will provide professional assistance to library patrons, particularly during evening hours, and perform any combination of the following and similar duties as required.
Essential Responsibilities
- Assist in designing and providing bibliographic instruction to students and to other patrons both face to face and online
- Assist in maintaining the library website and assist in developing research guides and tutorials
- Assist with library promotion efforts, e.g., marketing and outreach
- Provide reference services to library patrons
- Perform circulation desk duties including, but not limited to:
- Assist patrons in locating and using of library materials
- Check out, check in, collect fines, etc.
- Assist patrons with basic computer issues, e.g., word processing, printing, etc.
- Assist patrons with directional questions
- Assist in preparation of library documents such as policies, procedures, statistics, surveys, handouts and handbooks
- Assist in selection of print and non-print materials for library collection
- Assist with library assessment and long range planning
- Participate in professional organizations and professional development activities, and serve on college committees; assist with relevant community projects
- Promote college and community awareness of library services and materials, and support and encourage cooperation and resource sharing with local, regional and state libraries
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities
- Develop an understanding and appreciation of the mission, history, current programs, services and goals of Isothermal Community College
- Knowledge of library operations, resources, and services, including reference, circulation, online resources, library instruction, and assessment of library operations
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and facilitate change
- Proficient in computer skills, including word processing, web publishing, and internet and database searching
- Interpersonal, public relations, and written and verbal communication skills
- Problem-solving, organizational, and management skills
