Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree, at minimum, from a regionally accredited institution. The applicant will be expected to have supreme organizational skills, strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills to match an unwavering ability to think critically and make decisions. Excellent customer service skills and professionalism are necessary. The applicant must be student-centered, possessing a great personality and work ethic. The applicant must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to perform repetitive tasks and is able to use independent judgment in routine as well as occasional non-routine situations. Employ an enthusiastic sense of humor and a genuine desire to make the program a fun, yet challenging experience for all participants.

Preferred Qualifications

Must have excellent computer skills and hold proficiency in all major Microsoft Office programs (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Word). The candidate must also be punctual and mature. The individual must have the ability to work with and adapt to diverse populations, employ an enthusiastic sense of humor and a genuine desire to make the program a fun, yet challenging experience for all participants. The Minority Male Success Initiative (MMSI) College Specialist should also be committed to becoming familiar with all aspects of the operations of Pitt Community College and the North Carolina Community College System.

Position Description

Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Recreation and Student Success, the Minority Male Success Initiative (MMSI) College Specialist is primarily responsible for supporting the mission of Pitt Community College, with emphasis in the areas of retention, mentoring, and supporting students towards the successful completion of their academic goals. The individual places a special emphasis and focus on minority males. This individual will be expected to provide leadership, mentoring, academic coaching, and programming support for minority males, while also serving as a resource for all male students from underrepresented backgrounds. This individual should offer support and guidance to ensure academic and social success while promoting cultural pluralism and dialogue on matters related to the development of minority males. This individual will provide direct support to
the Coordinator of Recreation and Student Success.

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Assist with the establishment of programs and services to promote the success of minority males on campus.
2. Serve as a Co-Advisor to the MMSI student club organization.
3. Assist with the facilitation of MMSI scheduled meetings.
4. Provide clerical support such as obtaining and entering data, assisting with report preparation, collecting, compiling, and assembling information clearly and concisely, scheduling
student appointments, creating documents, spreadsheets, and promotional information, conducting online research, the scheduling of facilities, and monitoring phone and email accounts.
5. Serve as a positive role model for the student body.
