Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Education or a related field.
  2. Prior teaching experience.

Effective written and verbal communication and collaboration skills required

Computer Skills:

Have knowledge of:

  1. Email systems
  1. Online system skills
  1. Self-service Attendance
  1. Google Apps
  1. Microsoft Windows
  1. Word processing software

Position Description

  1. Provide the appropriate accommodations and modifications to the set curriculum for the students.
  2. Identify the individual needs of the students, creating a supportive and effective learning environment and ensuring the students have the resources they need to succeed.
  3. Assist the literacy education program in meeting or exceeding state benchmark percentages for completion of Education Functional Levels (EFL), Measurable Skills Gains (MSG), Post-testing, and students obtaining and retaining employment.
  4. Assist students enter postsecondary education or job training
  5. Assist in recruiting for Halifax Community Colleges Literacy Education Class and other programs.
  6. Maintain students records and documents
  7. Meet classes as assigned by contract
  8. Use a variety of teaching and learning styles
  9. Use Self Service Portal or Advansys (new)  to enter and maintain students’ attendance and grades
  10. Review and evaluate the effectiveness of literacy education program data in coordination with the Director of Literacy Education and other appropriate college personnel
  11. Serve as a representative of the college and support HCC
  12. Take professional development trainings, webinars, meetings, seminars, and conferences
  13. Follow the Adult Basic Education Content Standards and Benchmarks
  14. Excellent multitasking, time management and organizational skills
  15. Maintain weekly/monthly lesson plans
  16. Perform other duties as assigned by the director of literacy education, Dean of Workforce and Economic Development and other appropriate personnel.
