- Prior teaching experience.

Position Description
- Provide the appropriate accommodations and modifications to the set curriculum for the students.
- Identify the individual needs of the students, creating a supportive and effective learning environment and ensuring the students have the resources they need to succeed.
- Assist the literacy education program in meeting or exceeding state benchmark percentages for completion of Education Functional Levels (EFL), Measurable Skills Gains (MSG), Post-testing, and students obtaining and retaining employment.
- Assist students enter postsecondary education or job training
- Assist in recruiting for Halifax Community Colleges Literacy Education Class and other programs.
- Maintain students records and documents
- Meet classes as assigned by contract
- Use a variety of teaching and learning styles
- Use Self Service Portal or Advansys (new) to enter and maintain students’ attendance and grades
- Review and evaluate the effectiveness of literacy education program data in coordination with the Director of Literacy Education and other appropriate college personnel
- Serve as a representative of the college and support HCC
- Take professional development trainings, webinars, meetings, seminars, and conferences
- Follow the Adult Basic Education Content Standards and Benchmarks
- Excellent multitasking, time management and organizational skills
- Maintain weekly/monthly lesson plans
- Perform other duties as assigned by the director of literacy education, Dean of Workforce and Economic Development and other appropriate personnel.
