Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Strong ability to tutor students in developmental math
  • Knowledge of grammar, writing techniques, reading strategies, and vocabulary expansion
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to thoroughly assist with the informational needs of individuals
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office 2010) and commitment to using technology
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to change
  • Flexible schedule

The Part-time Test Preparation Lab Coach provides management and tutoring for the Test Preparation Lab in the Learning Commons. Primary duty includes assisting students in developing test taking strategies and study skills to promote student success. This position reports directly to the Director, Learning Commons.



  • Work with the Director, Learning Commons and staff to respond to the needs of students both onsite and online
  • Maintain open, robust, and timely communication with colleagues and supervisor
  • Assist in coordinating the Test Preparation Lab
  • Analyze problems and recommend solutions as needed
  • Prepare reports as requested by the Director, Learning Commons
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of student test scores by following FERPA regulations and carefully monitoring student records for security
  • Maintain tracking paperwork for the test preparation lab and documentation needed for FTE recording and audit purposes as appropriate
  • Assist in recommending and the management of resources for students
  • Assist in the promotion and awareness of the Test Preparation Lab and Learning Commons services among faculty, staff, and students
  • Collaborate regularly with other Learning Commons coaches
  • Cross refer students to other Learning Commons coaching centers, academic support workshops, and other campus resources and services as needed and appropriate
  • Lead Academic Support Workshops in classes and in the Learning Commons when appropriate and assigned by the Director, Learning Commons
  • Assist in other areas of the Learning Commons as needed and appropriate
  • Work with the Director, Learning Commons and other Learning Commons staff to develop meaningful evaluations of services and use data to inform decision making processes
  • Assist in monitoring the proper usage of the Learning Commons space
  • Follow Learning Commons policies and ensure students are adhering to policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the College mission and initiatives
  • Promote College mission, vision and values
