QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities satisfactorily.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the Library of Congress classification system

Knowledge of NC LIVE databases and other online academic databases

Ability to navigate the Integrated Library System databases and be familiar with cataloging rules and MARC records

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations

Knowledge of MLA, APA and Chicago Manual of Style citation styles

Understand and follow Federal, State local and institutional policies, laws, and regulations.

Observe shelving and retrieval practices

Possess and model effective communication, teamwork, professionalism and problem-solving skills

Interpret, explain, and enforce departmental policies and procedures

Work independently in the absence of supervision

Understand and follow oral and written instructions

Operate a variety of equipment in a safe and effective manner

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill, and abilities.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Skills

Required: An associate degree from a regionally accredited institution in Library Science or a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in English or a related field.

Preferred: A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in English or a related field. Bilingual.

Experience

Required: Two years prior experience working in a library.

Preferred: Some experience working in a community college. Considerable experience utilizing MS Office. Prior experience teaching or tutoring.

Position Description

Salary is Commensurate on experience and education 

The Patron Services and Technology Specialist supports the activities and operations of Library and Student Success Center services. Supervises library staff, student workers and volunteers in the Director of Library Services’ absence. Coordinates library programming to promote student engagement and strengthen information literacy skills. Provides reference and JustAskTech Support service. This position reports to the Director of Library Services.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Provide reference and research services

· Perform circulation duties including checking in/out materials, collecting fines, placing interlibrary loan requests and removing library holds

· Plan and schedule events and library programming to promote student engagement

· Provide information literacy instruction and tours, including evening classes

· Coordinate drop in Writing Center sessions both in person and online and make referrals to Student Support Services

· Close and secure the library

· Train and assist part-time staff in their duties and responsibilities

· Participate in acquisitions and collection development guided by Collection Development procedures

· Catalog library materials

· Assist patrons with library equipment operation including printers, photocopiers and Makerspace tools

· Answer and route telephone calls on the library and JustAskTech Support lines

· Provide direction to all library patrons during emergency situations and drills

· Perform other professional or job-related duties as assigned

· Serve on college committees as directed by the supervisor
