Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • Excellent typing, public relations, communications, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of the Datatel Colleague system preferred
  • Payroll experience preferred

Working Conditions

  • Typical office environment
  • Frequently sitting at a desk or workstation using a telephone, computer, keyboard, and mouse; some standing and walking
  • Evening and/or weekend hours as assigned

Position Description

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for working closely with Human Resources and other departments in order to process the monthly payroll in an accurate and timely manner while maintaining a high level of confidentiality.

The duties of the Payroll Specialist include, but are not limited to:

  • Process regular monthly payroll for all employee groups accurately and efficiently; perform complex payroll calculations;verify information from relevant forms; audit, correct, and balance payroll and a variety of reports
  • Calculate various garnishments in accordance with regulations; process deductions and disburse payments monthly; verify/enter voluntary payroll deductions for disbursement on a monthly basis; update direct deposit information for new and existing employees
  • Keep informed about changes in tax and deduction laws that apply to the payroll process
  • Provide information to employees and managers on payroll matters, tax issues, benefit plans, etc.
  • Perform state funds monthly close-out process, research and resolve any discrepancies
  • Prepare and transmit various payroll files related to benefit deductions, taxes, etc.
  • Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as required
  • Process and distribute W2 forms annually
  • Maintain records for travel and process reimbursement requests as received
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the Director of Financial Services and/or Senior Vice President of Administrative Services/Chief Operating Officer
