Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of five years of demonstrated track record of public and private development efforts including mastery of the basic principles and techniques of successful fundraising as they pertain to identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual, corporate, and foundation prospects, preferably in the non-profit or higher educational sector.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree

Specific training and experience in planned giving is needed.

Experience in a higher education environment preferred.

CFRE credential preferred.

Position Description

General Function

The incumbent in this job is expected to assist Central Piedmont Community College in achieving its vision and mission. Customer focus, college service, and a willingness to assist as needed are expectations for all employees.

Leads and directs the College’s planned giving program through the marketing, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of planned giving opportunities to prospective constituents, serving as a resource regarding planned gifts to other Central Piedmont Foundation development officers, and managing a portfolio of major gift prospects 

 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

1.  Manages a portfolio of 100-125 prospective and current donors who have the capacity to give $25,000 or more. Sets measurable outcomes for activities including meeting metrics for qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting significant contributions in support of the College’s mission and vision.

2.  Facilitates and devises strategies for face–to-face meetings with donors. Identifies donor philanthropic interests, shares giving opportunities, and closes gifts. Works closely with other Foundation staff to advance donor relationships, drive new/renewed giving, coordinate gift arrangements and documentation, and oversee solicitation and stewardship of assigned donors.

3.  Advises and provides advance preparation for college leadership (e.g. College President, Vice President of College Advancement), volunteers (Foundation Board or committee members), Executive Director of Development, and other college staff. This includes defining meeting objectives, writing talking points, creating donor proposals, preparing meeting briefings, writing donor correspondence, and organizing collateral materials as needed.

4.  Proactively explores opportunities to advance donors’ interest in Central Piedmont Community College and its priorities through one-to-one visits and contacts.

5.  Proposes to prospective donors strategies for gift ideas and cultivation related to gift planning beyond simple gifts of cash and securities.

6.  Explores options and develops proposals to respond to donor inquiries for proposed gifts that are targeted to the College’s priorities.

7.  Cultivates, solicits, and receives bequests, devices and gifts from estates, and has knowledge of legal and tax aspects of such gifts.

8.  Conducts personal visits with prospective donors and their attorneys, accountants, and investment advisors for the legal and tax ramifications of trust and deferred gifts.

9.  Maintains accurate and timely records/contact reports of all interactions with donors utilizing fundraising database and other tracking sheets as needed.

10. Oversees all marketing, promotion, and advertising related to planned giving.

11.  Oversees the acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship of planned gift donors through the Foundation’s Legacy Society recognition program.

12.  Initiates new campaigns to encourage donors to make planned gifts to the College.

13.  Provides general information on the legal and tax aspects of such gifts to selected donors and those requesting information.

14.  Serves as a resource to development team, deans, and other key administrators through training and other resources in coordination with the Foundation’s Vice President.

15. Provides information about tax laws and other gift planning news and updates to colleagues.

16. Prepares detailed plans and calculations to enable donors to make such gifts in coordination with development team, as needed.

17. Drafts and prepares gift agreements/documents for review by donors and their advisors in coordination with development team, as needed.
18. Provides documents and information for donors’ gifts outside standard gift acknowledgement related to planned giving.

19. Provides authoritative guidance in the strategic planning processes within the constituency unit as it relates to determining fundraising priorities and implementation plans.

20. Writes proposals to potential donors, drafts scholarship agreements using the template provided for all scholarship agreements, and prepares other materials for gift solicitations as needed.

21. Establishes, creates, develops, and implements plans for solicitation strategies for the College President, Foundation Vice President, and major gifts team in relation to planned giving prospects.

22. Inspires and maintains positive relationships and communications with Institutional Advancement and College colleagues to strengthen donor relationships and philanthropic giving to Central Piedmont.

23. Serves as a resource and supporting team member on Foundation events. Attends all major on-campus alumni events and other events designed to engage donors and prospective donors in the College.

24. Maintains professional connections in and knowledge of field through professional memberships and conferences.

25. Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Characteristics

Knowledge of:
Planned giving vehicles, tax laws, and current trends and practices;
Effective major gift fundraising techniques and practices;
Volunteer management techniques;
Association of Fundraising Professionals code of ethical conduct.

Skill in:
Computer proficiency in using standard software programs, PG Calc, fundraising databases (preference for Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge), and utilizing database reports;
Leveraging successful fundraising and major donor cultivation events;
Prioritizing and managing multiple donor meetings and relationships at varying stages.

Ability to:
