Two or more years’ experience in vocational training, work, supervisory experience in maintenance field. Extensive knowledge of and skills in carpentry, electrical installation, boiler maintenance, air conditioning and plumbing. Proficiency in heating, air conditioning and boiler maintenance. Valid North Carolina Driver’s License. An Associate’s degree in Applied Science, construction management, project management, or related field.

Assist in supervising, planning and review of the maintenance and renovation activities and operations of college facilities, and grounds; to assist in overseeing grounds; coordinate assigned activities with Custodial Services. Direct, coordinate and review the work plan for the physical facility maintenance programs; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities and projects; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures. Assist in overseeing the maintenance of a variety of facility maintenance records; and assist in preparing correspondence and reports regarding facilities services. Assist in coordinating and supervision of the operation and repair of utility systems. Assist in supervising the preventive and remedial maintenance for institutional vehicles and all maintenance equipment. Assist in new construction, major repair, renovations, and alterations of all facilities. Assume the leadership responsibilities of the maintenance department in the absence of the Director of Facilities. Requisition, receive, inventory, and warehouse maintenance supplies, materials, and equipment. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including college and government officials, community groups, and the general public. Assist in coordinating and supervising special furniture and equipment requirements for college functions on and off campus. Assist in meeting the requirements and regulations of OSHA, EPA, and ADA regarding plant operations, maintenance, and safety. Participate in education and training courses, as requested. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
Ability to manage and coordinate the work of college facility maintenance, custodial, and contracted staff. Ability to make necessary decisions and repairs to boilers, chillers, fans, lighting, plumbing fixtures, building hardware, and electrical equipment in general. Ability to work with faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
Various in/outdoor environments; occasional exposure to chemical and biological hazardous materials or conditions; occasional exposure to fumes, odors, noise, dust, mechanical or electrical hazards; occasional exposure to changes in temperature in conjunction with maintenance of facilities/grounds and set up of events; occasionally works in confined or high spaces.
