Position Description
To provide technical support to Print Center operations and graphic design work for PrePress tasks–as needed. Duties include some graphic design work, print processes, and assisting with technical and software issues.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
Required (essential) duties:
- Description: Prepress file handling and production of printed materials.
Decisions: Print decisions include preparing files for print. This includes ensuring the file is print ready, setting up the imposition, and determining which printing and finishing equipment is best for project. - Description: Completion of electronic and hardcopy print orders.
Decisions: Preparation of print orders by setting up and operating printers and finishing equipment, producing print orders accurately, notifying customer of completion, and finally delivering to mail room. - Description: Stock inventory of all consumables.
Decisions: Forecast for upcoming jobs, stocking shelves, and rotating consumables. - Description: Update standard operating procedure manual.
Decisions: Decisions include gathering prepress, imposition, print property, and consumable information for individual jobs to ensure consistency. Providing photographs for visual reference as necessary. - Description: Quality assurance.
Decisions: Deciding how often inspection of product is needed to ensure consistent quality and accuracy and packaging product for delivery to protect quality product.
Knowledge and skills:
- Knowledge: Adobe Creative Suites (Photoshop, Illustrator, Bridge, InDesign), Adobe Acrobat X, Fiery Command Workstation, VersaWorkx, Virtual Machine
Skill: Accuracy, creating graphics as needed, developing complex graphic files, imposition, variable date ability, invoicing, information tracking - Knowledge: Reverse engineering, Digital printers, paper stock, and print finishing equipment
Skill: Digital print experience, understanding of weights and types of paper stock, as well as, when to use, trimming, binding, folding, and packaging - Knowledge: Imposition
