Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include academic and vocational experience or knowledge, and strong interpersonal communication skills. The successful candidate must be able to manage change, embrace diverse populations and cultures, build morale and a strong management team, and have an understanding of and commitment to community and state college systems, including the advancement of programs that reflect local and regional needs. A doctoral/terminal degree or equivalent experience is preferred but not required.

Position Description

The College seeks an inspirational and experienced leader who can guide innovation and a strategic vision for continued success in its commitment to students and the communities of the Research Triangle of North Carolina that Durham Tech serves. The President will join a community of dedicated faculty and staff who value the College’s students and who are committed to providing exceptional educational opportunities for students to achieve transformational social and economic mobility.

The President must understand the important roles various local, state, and national governments play in supporting Durham Tech, and possess the essential skills to serve as an effective advocate for the College with public servants and elected officials; possess the ability and commitment to proactively develop and maintain strong partnerships in education, economic development, the arts, and in the agencies and action groups of the diverse communities served; and appreciate the College’s role in the educational continuum.

Reporting to the Durham Tech Board of Trustees, the President is the College’s chief administrative/chief executive officer, directly responsible for the College’s operations and management. The position provides forward looking leadership focused on ensuring academic excellence, preparing an employable workforce, furthering student success, and creating a learning-centered environment. The President builds strategic alliances with the vibrant business community in the Research Triangle and oversees seven primary divisions at its campuses in Durham and Orange counties—including Student Learning and Instructional Services; Student Engagement, Development, and Support; Corporate and Continuing Education; Finance and Administration; Institutional Advancement; and supports the Center for the Global Learner; and Research, Evaluation, Assessment and Planning. The President provides leadership for educational programs and services, guides a qualified and committed staff, and ensures proper operating procedures for all functions of the College. The President serves as an engaged member of the off-campus community and actively develops partnerships and resources in support of the College’s mission and values.
