Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Counseling, Education, Social work, or a related field. Experience with federal TRiO programs or minimum of three years of professional experience working directly with academically under-prepared students preferred. Experience leading collaboratively with cross functional project teams on large-scale projects from vision through implementation. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of theories and practices for college student development and identity formation, group development and dynamics.

Physical Requirements: Tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of walking, standing, climbing, balancing, reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling and crawling, and which may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 20 pounds).
Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.

Confidentiality
Maintains confidentiality of all ODS documentation and ODS related issues according to established guidelines. Maintains safety and security of ODS program office. This includes but is not limited to: all common areas, file cabinets, student testing areas and staff workroom.
Language Ability: Requires ability to read a variety of books, policy and procedure manuals, schedules, etc. Requires the ability to prepare reports, logs, records, etc. with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control and confidence. Must have skills in expressive interpreting, translating, and reverse interpreting. Skills in language mediation and possession of long and short-term memory skills. Knowledge of the ethics of interpreting. Knowledge of deafness and the deaf community as well as human service agencies which serve the deaf.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral, written, diagrammatic or schedule form. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow and give verbal and written instructions; and to teach and counsel volunteers and staff. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with persons of varying educational backgrounds and in a variety of technical and/or professional languages including counseling, volunteerism, etc.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; ability to utilize principles of fractions; ability to interpret graphs.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape, and visually read various information.
Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes using office machinery, and other special equipment; and to operate motor vehicles.
Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, keyboards, office equipment, control knobs, buttons, switches, catches, etc. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination and Visual Acuity: Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color; requires the visual acuity to determine depth perception, night vision, peripheral vision, inspection for small parts; preparing and analyzing written or computer data, etc.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate stress when confronted with an emergency. Knowledge of Work: Has thorough knowledge of the methods, policies, and procedures of the Disability Services Department of the Student Development Service Division as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Counselor. Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of Pitt Community College as such pertains to the performance of the essential duties. Has thorough knowledge of principles and practices of student counseling on issues pertaining to admissions, academics, education, careers, and personal concerns, especially disabilities. Has thorough knowledge of the laws including ADA, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the essential duties and responsibilities of the position. Has considerable knowledge of the organization of the department, and of related departments and agencies. Has clear knowledge any occupational hazards and adheres to any safety precautions inherent in performing the essential functions of the work. Position Description
The Program Coordinator: TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) will work in collaboration with the Director of TRIO Programs to develop, plan, and implement support services which result in increased academic performance, retention and degree completion. The Program Coordinator will collaborate with the Tutor Coordinator/English Academic Specialist, Student Equity Specialist, and Administrative Assistant/Data Specialist in the coordination (implementation and assessment) of First and Second-Year programming and service delivery. Furthermore, the incumbent must have the ability to work independently, handle ambiguity, manage multiple projects and deadlines, as well as possess strong interpersonal skills. In addition, this position requires an understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion with the ability view programs and services from an equity lens. This position reports to the Director, TRIO Programs.
Coordinate with the Tutor Coordinator/English Academic Specialist, Student Equity Specialist, and Administrative Asst/Data Specialist in executing the SSS strategic plan with the aim of exceeding program goals and objectives.
Serves as advisor/counselor on record for program participants in an effort to provide high-touch interaction and student development utilizing the appreciative advising framework.
Conducts applicant intake interviews; prepare needs assessment, development of Individualized Support Plans (ISP).
Provides personal, academic and financial counseling to program participants on an individual and group basis.
Assist with the implementation of personal development and careers-exposure/awareness seminars; including identification of speakers for special events
Establishes confidential counseling contact record system in each participant’s files. Shares responsibility for maintaining up-to-date participant monitoring files.
Plans project-related educational and cultural enrichment programs and services.
Plans and implements special focus project workshops or seminars (as study skills; transfer counseling; financial aid counseling).
Ability to use technology to enhance programming and service delivery.
Maintains compliance with federal regulations governing the project. Ensures that all participants meet federal guidelines for program participation.
Provides reports to director to ensure participants are following the required guidelines of the program.
Assist the director in providing in-service training to new and existing program staff.
Ability to utilize Management Information Systems (i.e. Blumen, Aviso, Datatel, TRIO Dashboard, etc.) to make informed decisions.
Ability to network and collaborate with campus stakeholders in support of the program’s goals and objectives.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, often ambitious/demanding environment while maintaining agreed upon work schedules and deliverables.
