Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in Education, Higher Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field, AND
  • One year of professional experience in an educational setting, OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience coordinating educational programs or events
  • Experience working with overnight summer programs
  • Experience with TRiO or other federally funded programs, including knowledge of services, objectives, and regulations
  • Personal experience overcoming academic, cultural, financial, or other obstacles similar to those faced by low-income or first-generation students or students with disabilities participating in the Upward Bound program

Position Description

The Upward Bound Program Coordinator facilitates the planning and implementation of college preparation activities and services for approximately 180 high school students in Lee and Harnett Counties.

Essential Duties

 

  • Support the planning, coordination and implementation of engaging and high quality Upward Bound activities and services, including Saturday sessions during the academic year and 6-week summer programs for each cohort over the summers;
  • Collaborate with Program Manager and local school district personnel to recruit and retain at least 60 participants per program each year, including attending school events and making presentations at assigned high schools; 
  • Serve as the staff member on-site for the Residential Summer Program at Campbell University;
  • Coordinate and host workshops for students and parents/guardians during the academic year on topics related to financial literacy education, community service, and career exploration; 
  • Plan and coordinate cultural enrichment opportunities, job site visits, and community service projects; 
  • Assist Director in administering budgets (maintain documentation of expenditures, create requisitions, process check requests, reconcile travel expenses, etc.);
  • Oversee the maintenance of program participant files (active participants and alumni), both on paper and in an electronic database, ensuring that each file is complete with application, verification of eligibility, documentation of participation and academic progress, and documentation of postsecondary enrollment;
  • Conduct monthly school visits and provide individual and group advising to support students’ academic success, high school graduation, and enrollment in postsecondary education in two (2) assigned high schools;
  • Develop strong relationships with students and families from assigned high schools to promote student growth and engagement in the program; 
  • Assist in the hiring and training of part-time staff summer staff; 
  • Plan and execute Cultural Enrichment trips, Career Exploration, and Community Service projects for program participants;
  • Manage the Upward Bound Programs social media accounts; 
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the guidance staff at assigned schools, CCCC faculty and staff, local school district personnel, and community partners that will enhance the educational experience and outcomes of Upward Bound participants;
  • Develop forms and records to document program activities and maintain documentation of services in electronic database and participant files;
  • Assist Director with preparation and submission of evaluations and reports, including the Department of Education Annual Performance Report;
  • Other duties as assigned.
