Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Preferred QualificationsJD or equivalent and 1 year experience practicing law and/or teaching law.
MinimumBachelor Degree in Paralegal Studies AND North Carolina Certified Paralegal (NCCP) certification or demonstrated education, experience, and credentialing commensurate for the discipline. Documented experience working as a Paralegal or working with Paralegals.
 

Knowledge and Skills:
Teaching and administrative experience leading to this level of responsibility. Demonstration of skills in the areas of: technology used in the legal community, communication, organization, and managing multiple priorities; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, community groups, and others; demonstrated ability to work within a collaborative team environment; willingness to embrace and learn new instructional technology.
 

Physical Demands:
Position requires the ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds unassisted
 

Licensing Requirement:
Preferred: Current license to practice law from NC State Bar

Position Description

Carteret Community College is accepting applications for a Program Director of Paralegal.  Applications are accepted through Monday, April 25, 2022.  Projected start date:  May 31, 2022.

This is a full-time, benefit-eligible, 12 month position.  Benefits include 12 paid holidays per year, 8 hours paid sick leave per month,  State Health Plan at a nominal cost to the employee, and TSERS retirement eligibility-fully vested upon 5 years of membership service.

Minimum entry level annual salary:
  $55,176.    Bachelor's Degree; $57,924.   Master's Degree; $61,884.    Doctoral Degree

The Program Director of Paralegal will provide leadership and fulfill administrative, instructional, and coordinative duties in their division. Includes coordination of day, evening, weekend, off-campus, and online coursework for the division.

Teaching and Learning:

  • Teach a minimum load within paralegal curriculum in accordance with American Bar Association (ABA).
  • Assume responsibility for teaching assignments as recommended by the Dean.
  • Facilitate   the   learning   process   by   designing   and   implementing   appropriate, meaningful instructional activities.
  • Adhere to departmental course guidelines and ensure that content covers approved competencies.
  • Order supplies and materials for courses and recommend appropriate equipment or technology.
  • Maintain required college records including attendance, grades, books, etc.
  • Evaluate student performance and learning outcomes using methods appropriate to the courses.
  • Participate      in    departmental   activities     relative   to    developing   and    updating program(s) in area of expertise.

 
Curriculum Development and Oversight:

  • Maintain Paralegal program compliance with current American Bar Association guidelines.
  • Ensure courses support program learning outcomes.
  • Assume responsibility for day-to-day operation of courses.
  • Assist in the development of new instructional materials for courses.
  • Maintain common and master syllabi as well as collect and record outcome data.
  • Create and conduct ongoing training for adjunct instructors.
  • Promote innovative instruction and an environment conducive to learning and maintaining high standards.
  • Revise and update curriculum; assist in the development of new class offerings and course outcomes.
  • Coordinate the development of the schedule in consultation with other divisions and departments.
  • Monitor methods of assessment in courses.
  • Administer academic policies and procedures.
  • Review and approve textbook adoptions.
  • Keep accurate and precise records in accordance with American Bar Association requirements.
  • Attend training sessions relative to advising.

Program Review and Planning:

  • Establish and execute short- and long-term program goals.
  • Participate in data gathering, interpretation, and evaluation activities.’
  • Maintain data files, including graded student work, raw assessment data, graduation data, placement data, demographic data to maintain compliance with ABA guidelines.
  • Collaborate with faculty in periodic reviews of planning and goal attainment.
  • Maintain an effective and productive relationship with transfer institutions when applicable, community agencies, and the legal community.
  • Prepare and submit all required ABA reports.
  • Participate in developing marketing strategies for Paralegal

 Provide student related services:

  • Organize and participate in student recruitment activities
  • Evaluate student needs and refer as needed
  • Participate in retention development strategies

 
Advising:

  • Provide assistance to advisees and maintain proficiency in program requirements of advisees.
  • Participate in department, division, and college-wide advising activities.
  • Maintain proficiency in advising technology and attend advising training sessions.

 
Administer faculty and staff operations:

  • Supervise and assist part-time employees in your area 
  • Promote a collaborative work environment
  • Promote professional standards and protocol
  • Determine staffing needs and establish qualifications
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and selecting of part-time faculty
  • Assist in orientation of faculty
  • Identify and procure resources needed by part-time faculty
  • Evaluate performance of part-time faculty

 
Professional Development:

  • Establish a professional development plan that is approved by the Dean.
  • Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for position.
  • Keep abreast of current technology.
  • Attend on- and off-campus workshops, conferences, and professional development activities or meetings.

Manage budgets and equipment/supplies

  • Collaborate with faculty to project future funding needs
  • Allocate and reallocate funds based on departmental, divisional, and institutional priorities
  • Monitor expenditures and provide periodic reports to faculty and senior administration
  • Monitor inventory of supplies and equipment 
  • Place repair and supply orders 

 
Institutional Service:

  • Adhere to all institutional policies and procedures.
  • Attend all required department, division, and college-wide meetings.
  • Serve on committees as required
