Minimum Qualifications

MA communication, MA Theater/Drama or MA in related field plus 18 graduate hours in communication.

 

Preference given to applicants with community college teaching experience.

Salary commensurate with experience and education background
based on state mandated minimums. Open until filled.

Preferred Qualifications

Physical Requirements:   Must be physically able to operate a variety of types of office and other equipment. Must be physically able to exert up to twenty-five pounds of force occasionally and/or frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.  Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work; position requires walking, standing, stooping, reaching, crouching, fingering, etc. for extended periods of time.  Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of approximately fifty pounds.

 

Data Conception:   Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.

 

Interpersonal Communication:   Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information.  Includes giving instructions to students.  Includes the receiving of information and instructions from supervisor.

 

Language Ability:   Requires the ability to read a variety of documents, reports, and various books such as various manuals, PCC handbook and catalog, various texts, PCC FACT book, etc.  Requires the ability to prepare various documents and reports such as lesson plans, grade/evaluation reports, attendance report, end-of semester reports, long-range plans, etc., using the proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar.  Requires the ability to communicate with co-workers, supervisor, subordinates, other PCC personnel, etc. with poise, voice control, and confidence.  Requires the ability to be conversant in the theory, principles, and methods of effective and persuasive speaking, voice and diction, phonetics, and discussion and debate.  Requires the ability to be conversant in the language of information technology – all areas: internet, web development, networking/telecommunications, programming, and software/hardware maintenance.

 

Intelligence:   Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form.  Must be able to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.  Requires the ability to apply rational systems such as education (teaching), business administration, computer applications, etc., in order to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables.

 

Verbal Aptitude:   Requires the ability to record and deliver information and to follow verbal and written instructions.  Must be able to instruct others via effective verbal communication.

 

Numerical Aptitude:   Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers; determine percentages and decimals; and determine time and weight.

 

Form/Spatial Aptitude:  Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.

 

Motor Coordination:   Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in utilizing automated office and audio-visual equipment, etc.  

 

Manual Dexterity:   Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment, control knobs, switches, etc.  Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

 

Color Discrimination:   Requires the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.

 

Interpersonal Temperament:   Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions.   Must be adaptable to performing under moderate stress when confronted with an emergency.

 

Physical Communication:  Requires the ability to talk and/or hear (talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing - perceiving nature of sounds by ear.)

 

 

Position Description

Teaches assigned day and/or evening college-transfer communication courses. Courses may be located at local high schools. Performs related administrative and record-keeping duties. Reports to the English and Humanities Department Chair.

 

Essential Job Functions:

Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues and a diverse faculty; to prioritize tasks and organize data; to promote high standards in the classroom.   Demonstrated teaching skills, including ability to organize class materials, meet a course's objectives, and use a variety of teaching strategies.
