QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
- Classroom, laboratory, and clinical instructional techniques and procedures.
- Principles and procedures of academic and instructional techniques and procedures.
- Current trends, research and development in the area of assignment.
- Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration.
- Dental software for record keeping
- Dental software for dental imaging
Ability To:
- Interpret and apply college goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
- Making observations
- Reading and writing
- Communicating with other
- Operating assigned equipment
- Handling varied tasks simultaneously

Education & Experience
Required:
- Graduate of a CODA accredited dental hygiene program.
- Hold a baccalaureate or higher degree
- Minimum of three calendar years’ experience in the clinical practice of dental hygiene or working as a dental hygienist.
- Current North Carolina Dental Hygiene License
- Evidence of academic preparation consistent with the American Dental Association Commission standards for accreditation. This includes documented background in educational methodology, techniques, and instruction or ability to complete within three months of hire date.
Other Training Requirements:
- Compliance with required immunizations
- Current OSHA training
- Current HIPAA training
- Current Healthcare Provider CPR certification
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred
- Teaching experiences in dental hygiene at or above the program level and experience in course development
- Member of American Dental Hygienists’ Association
Position Description
DEFINITION:
To provide classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction to college students through lecture, demonstration, laboratory exercises, and clinical experiences. Clinical sessions include a maximum of 20 hours per week to include daytime, evenings, and/or Saturdays.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
- Receives general supervision from higher-level instructional staff and the program director.
- May receive general supervision from full-time clinical faculty
- Exercises no right supervision.
Essential functions:
- Provide classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical instruction to students
- Collaborate with lead course instructor on course development and assessment tools
- Evaluate student performance in the classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical setting
- Provide demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance
- Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area
- Provide feedback and remediation as necessary for dental hygiene students
- Attend monthly clinical faculty meetings
- Attend clinical calibration meetings
Other Important Functions:
- Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons; revise and improve lessons format.
- Oversee and participate in field studies and assignments; travel with students to provide assistance and instruction as appropriate
