Qualifications

Education Minimum:  Associate Degree in related or applicable field.  Current NC Criminal Justice General Instructor Certified.  Ability to communicate with various levels of students through various mediums of instructional delivery; educational philosophy compatible with the role of the community college.
 
Education Preferred:  Training and experience equivalent to a Subject Matter Expert, Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, current NCJA Specialized Instructor for Firearms, and/or Driving, School Director or Qualified Assistant experience for State Commission courses (or able to obtain in 90 days).  Possess a current CPR certificate or ability to obtain.
 
Experience Minimum:   Five (5) years of Criminal Justice Practitioner Experience or related fields with supervisory experience.  Instruction in adult learners and diverse populations.

Position Description

Summary
Must be able to explain and teach community college students from various backgrounds, cultures, ages and experience levels subjects centered on modern Criminal Justice practitioner concepts and applications.  The position involves the teaching of the principles, theories and techniques used in Criminal Justice.  Must have a thorough understanding of the multiple functions of Criminal Justice and student success strategies.  Assist in the delivery of multiple Criminal Justice Commission courses; pre and post delivery for NC Criminal Justice Training and Standards and NC Sheriff’s Education and Trainings and Standards Commissions.

 

Knowledge & Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide support and assistance to the School Director for Basic Law Enforcement Training, Speed Measuring Instruments, General Instructor and Detention Officer Certification Course.
  • Administrative duties directly related to NC Commission courses (NC Criminal Justice Training and Standards and NC Sheriff’s Education and Trainings and Standards Commissions)
  • Liaise with NC Criminal Justice Training and Standards and NC Sheriff’s Education and Trainings and Standards Commissions
  • External class requirements: course research, design, development, training
  • Manages classroom, students, and assorted paperwork
  • Teaches classes and instructs; conducts learning activities and assessments
  • Prepare course materials such as assignments, lesson plans (familiar with ISD format), objectives, and handouts 
  • Maintains cleanliness and security of class/labs area, of tools and equipment 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Language Skills
Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of descriptive data and information, such as policy manuals, Employee Handbook, SACSCOC Criteria Manual, NC Commissions guidelines, program guidelines from JCC, course syllabi and course textbooks.     
 
Mathematical Skills  
Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as ability to calculate decimals and percentages.  This position must be able to provide accurate data for program costs projection analysis.
 
Reasoning Ability Functional Reasoning
Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, teaching andragogy, and leadership.   Ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to problem resolution.  Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required.
 
Computer Skills
A complete knowledge of Microsoft Office Products as used in overall management in an educational environment is required, other commonly used educational formats in Criminal Justice education and technology.
 
Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization
Requires the ability to use, operate, and/or handle a variety of office and Criminal Justice related equipment.
 
Physical Demands
