Qualifications

Education
Minimum: Master's Degree in Criminal Justice Field or a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and 18 hours of graduate work in Criminal Justice or related field.
 
Experience
Minimum: Experience in Criminal Justice with teaching adult learners. Practical experience in the field of Criminal Justice is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:  Two years of experience in Criminal Justice teaching/training of adult learners.  Five years of progressively responsible experience in the field of Criminal Justice is preferred.Must be able to explain and teach community college students from various backgrounds, cultures, ages and experience levels subjects centered on Criminal Justice concepts and applications. The position involves the teaching of the principles, theories and techniques used in the Criminal Justice field in a variety of communication formats including verbal and written. Thorough understanding of the theoretical basis upon which the interrelated practice of Law Enforcement, Corrections, the Courts and private security obtain legitimacy are required.

Position Description

Knowledge & Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Teaches classes and instructs; conducts learning activities.
  • Prepares lesson activities; prepares and oversees projects.
  • Evaluate and grade students' class work, laboratory work, assignments, and papers.
  • Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
  • Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
  • Compile, administer, and grade examinations
  • Maintains cleanliness of class/labs area.
  • Maintain security of tools and equipment.
  • Recruit students from a broad cross section of local populations and institutions
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Timely and accurate submission of required documentation.

Additional Information:

Language Skills                                            
Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of descriptive data and information, such as policy manuals, Employee Handbook, SACSCOC Criteria Manual, program guidelines from JCC, course syllabi and course textbooks. This position requires verbal and written mastery of English.
 
Mathematical Skills                                                 
Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as ability to calculate decimals and percentages. This position must be able to provide accurate data for program costs projection analysis.
 
Reasoning Ability                                                     
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, teaching andragogy, and leadership.  Ability to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to problem resolution.
                       
Situational Reasoning:  Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required.
 
Computer Skills
A complete knowledge of Microsoft Products as used in overall management in an educational environment is required.
