To provide classroom instruction through lecture, demonstration, laboratory exercises, handouts, responding to questions, and testing to guide students through the dog grooming.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Employees within this class are distinguished from the Program Director and Full-time Faculty by the performance of basic and general instructional duties. Employees at this level receive instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Receives direct supervision and/or technical direction from the Associate Vice President, Economic & Workforce Development.

May occasionally receive general supervision from full-time instructional staff

Exercises no supervision

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

  • Provide classroom and laboratory instruction to students
  • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities
  • Utilize online Learning Management software, such as Blackboard
  • Develop and prepare supplement materials to enhance textbook lessons
  • Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance; grade record individual scores
  • Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance
  • Maintain and submit all required paperwork in a neat, accurate and timely fashion, including but not limited to: class rosters, registration forms, pay sheets, attendance forms and grade rosters
  • Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area and in accordance with CFCC policies and guidelines

Other Important Functions:

  • Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons and recommend improvements as needed
  • Oversee and participate in field studies and assignments; travel with students to provide assistance and instruction as appropriate
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge of:

  • Classroom and laboratory instructional techniques and procedures
  • Principles and procedures of academic and instructional techniques and procedures
  • Current trends, research and development in the area of assignment
  • Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration
  • History of grooming
  • Breeds and breed standards
  • Grooming techniques and practical application
  • Emergency pet care and first aid
  • Industry insight and education

Ability To:

  • Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully, both orally and in writing

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

Minimum Education/Training:
High school diploma or Equivalent
Apprenticeship or intern with an experienced groomer

Minimum Experience:
Has held a minimum of 1 year of full-time employment or 3 years of part-time employment as a groomer.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:
Certified Dog Groomer or Master Dog Groomer certificate through the National Dog Groomers Association of America (NDGAA)
Associates Degree in related field

Class will be held in the evenings, 2-3 nights per week. Location to be determined in New Hanover or Pender County.

Requires 3 letters of recommendation and/or references from current supervisor and previous supervisors.
