Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education/Training:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
     

Minimum Experience:

  • 5 (five) years of relevant work experience in historic preservation projects either in planning, managing, supervising or working hands on in an historic trade.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:

  • One or more years of experience in an instructional setting as a tutor or teacher are preferred. 
  • Experience in using online learning platforms.
  • Associate’s Degree in a construction trade, management, historic preservation, planning or closely related field. 

 

Other information:

  • Course is hybrid meeting one day a week 6-9pm virtually instructor lead, and one day a week 6-9pm meeting face to face at the North Campus learning hands on skills or visiting local historical preservation sites or projects.

Position Description

DEFINITION:
 

Historic trades instructor who will provide classroom instruction to students through lecture, demonstration, and laboratory exercises, handouts, responding to questions and testing.

   

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Receives technical direction/general supervision from Workforce Readiness Coordinator
  • Receives general supervision from the Workforce Readiness Director
  • Exercises no right supervision

 

 

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

 

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENT:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Provide a safe hands on work environment for all students.
  • Participate in curriculum development, evaluation, and change; attend faculty meetings as required.
  • Stay abreast of new developments, and changes in the historic construction building codes and trade, as well as various academic fields; participate in staff development programs, workshops, seminars, and other continuing education programs as appropriate.
  • Provide classroom and laboratory instruction to students
  • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities
  • Develop and prepare supplement materials to enhance textbook lessons
  • Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance; grade record individual scores
  • Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance
  • Maintain and submit all required paperwork in a neat, accurate and timely fashion, including but not limited to: class rosters, registration forms, pay sheets, attendance forms and grade rosters
  • Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area and in accordance with CFCC policies and guidelines

Other Important Functions:

  • Demonstrate competence regarding OSHA, student safety, and general construction and/or construction knowledge.
  • Demonstrate competence regarding the handling of hazardous materials, and hazardous wastes. 
  • Collaborate and plan with local historic preservation organizations to secure guest speakers/lectures from building code to windows and plaster of historic homes/buildings.
  • Demonstrate community involvement within the historic preservation community.
  • Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons and recommend improvements as needed
  • Oversee and participate in field studies and assignments; travel with students to provide assistance and instruction as appropriate
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

  • Historic homes/building and related construction needs & processes 
  • Safety in the Workplace
  • Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations, including Right to Know regulations.
  • Classroom and laboratory instructional techniques and procedures
  • Principles and procedures of academic and instructional techniques and procedures
  • Current trends, research and development in the area of assignment
  • Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration

 

Ability To:

  • Interpret and apply College goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
