Minimum Qualifications
Prior work experience in full food service operation and two years of experience in the hospitality industry is required. Associate's Degree in culinary arts from an accredited school or Certified Executive Chef ServSafe certification required
Preferred Qualifications
5 years’ work experience in improving kitchen efficiencies, quality, food and labor costs. Teaching experience at a post-secondary institution preferred. Bachelor's degree in culinary arts preferred.
Position Description
Reporting directly to the Dean of Workforce and Economic Development, the part-time Hospitality instructor will plan, organize, and teach courses as assigned to ensure that students are successful. This position will develop course syllabi, outlines, and lesson plans for Occupational Extension courses agreed upon. Review and select appropriate textbooks and instructional materials and media for the classes to be taught. Develops lectures, classroom activities, and/or actual work site exercises for students to participate and learn. Takes role each class and monitors attendance and records grade of P Pass, F Fail, I Incomplete, W Withdrew, AUAudit. Administers tests or other evaluation methods to students; grades and gives feedback on exercises. Keeps records of student attendance.
Essential Functions: Under the supervision of the Dean, the Instructor plans and implements educational activities to ensure that student learning outcomes are consistent with program learning outcomes and the mission of the College. The Instructor ensures continuous improvement of instruction by means of ongoing program assessment.Course Development/Instruction
o Teach assigned classes
o Create an effective learning environment
o Meet classes as assigned
o Present instruction based on the student learning outcomes and performance levels of the course
o Use teaching methods designed for a variety of learning styles
o Use course text, outlines, syllabi and other curriculum materials in accordance with college and departmental guidelines
o Assist with maintaining a classroom/lab/shop/range environment emphasizing safety, goodhousekeeping, and equipment security
o Course format – course(s) may be required to be conducted in in the classroom and on a range.The classroom portion may be in-class, virtual, hybrid, or online.College/Student Support
o Recruit, support, and retain students
o Participate in communications with the college and department
o Meet deadlines as required
o Submit required reports
o Participate in the college's assessment process, as required
o Fulfill all contract provisions
o Maintain a high level of professionalism as a representative of the college
o Address student concerns in a timely manner
o Refer students to campus resources when appropriate
o Maintain accurate attendance and scholastic records of students
