Education Minimum:  Associate Degree in Business Administration, Human Resource Development, Criminal Justice, Education or related degree
 
Experience Minimum:  Two (2) years counseling, mentoring, advising or closely related role; and experience with adult learners and/or socio economically diverse groups in an academic/college or community-based setting.
 
Education Preferred: Bachelor Degree in Human Resource Development, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Education or related degree.   
 
Experience Preferred:  Two (2) years counseling, mentoring, advising or closely related role and experience with adult learners and/or socio economically diverse groups in an academic/college or community-based setting.

Position Description

Summary

The purpose of this position is to provide a comprehensive employability training program to the unemployed inmate population at Johnston Correctional Institution.  The position is responsible for teaching classes and instructing, preparing lesson plans and comprehending assessments in all areas of job search preparation and retention. Knowledge in job readiness, basic computer operations, money management and community resources is preferred. Daytime and evening flexibility required.  Perform related work as required.

 

Knowledge & Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Teaches classes and instructs students in all areas of job search preparation
  • Teach and administer the Career Readiness Certification
  • Prepares lesson plans, lectures, course overviews and course syllabi.
  • Selects appropriate learning material for assigned classes
  • Prepares attendance reports and adheres to attendance class polices

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

Additional Information:

Language Skills:  Ability to read and comprehend written material

 

Mathematical Skills:  Basic math reasoning required.

 

Reasoning Ability:  

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Skills:  Proficient in Microsoft Office

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Willing to obtain the Career Readiness Certification
