Minimum Qualifications

Associate of Applied Science degree in Professional Crafts Jewelry or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum 5 years experience in jewelry making on a professional level. Demonstrated knowledge of producing objects incorporating repoussé granulation, reticulation, inlay, stone setting, patinas, anodizing, and etching. Experience operating a range of jewelry equipment. Prior teaching experience at the post-secondary level. Experience working with a diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, ability, and ethnic background of students. Familiarity with Moodle or other learning management systems. 

Position Description

Teach an in-person section of PCJ 113 – Jewelry Decorative Techniques during the Summer 2024 semester. This class will meet during the days on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the summer semester. Eligible candidates for the position must be available to teach on HCC’s main campus. Duties are primarily instructional, with efforts that promote and enhance the college's commitment to excellence in instruction and support the current needs of the students and other faculty. Instructors are responsible to a dean and/or program manager. The relationship of the instructor to the student is one of leader, teacher, and facilitator of learning.

This position is for in-person courses for summer semester, beginning June 3, 2024.  Position advertisement open only until filled.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

 

  • Generates updated course syllabi at the beginning of the semester that provide students with a list of course requirements, necessary texts/supplies, a summary of course content and subject competencies to be covered, and evaluation methods to be utilized. 
  • Prepares course materials; use appropriate teaching techniques, including delivering lectures, leading discussions, and conducting demonstrations; and perform other activities that are related to and meet the requirements of the courses. 
  • Conducts evaluations of student performance and assigns grades based on such evaluations. 
  • Maintains student attendance records and grades according to college and state policy and procedure. 
  • Responsible for the development and revision of course content, textbook/equipment selection, and other instructional materials.
  • Responsible for administering student surveys in class as prescribed by the College procedure and discussing survey results with their supervisor.
  • Maintains professional skills and subject expertise through continual study and researching discipline and through involvement in professional organizations.
  • Supports and encourages college-sponsored activities. 
  • Create a student-centered environment 
  • Implement innovative strategies to meet the needs of students and improve processes
  • Interact with co-workers and perform tasks with the highest level of integrity
  • Work cooperatively with faculty, staff, students, and our learning community
  • Promote and support HCC’s mission, vision, and values and promote and support coworkers in the most positive manner. 
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
