Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education/Training:

  • High school diploma or Equivalent
  • Apprenticeship or internship

 

Minimum Experience:

  • Small engine certification from Equipment & Engine Training Council (EETC)
  • 5 years experience as a small engine mechanic

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:

  • Small engine certification from Equipment & Engine Training Council (EETC)
  • 10 years experience as a small engine mechanic
  • Associates Degree in related field

Position Description

DEFINITION:

To provide classroom instruction through lecture, demonstration, laboratory exercises, handouts, responding to questions, and testing to guide students through the basics of small engine theory, maintenance and repair. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Receives direct supervision and/or technical direction from Workforce Development Coordinator and
     the Director of Workforce Development
  • May occasionally receive general supervision from full-time instructional staff
  • Exercises no supervision

 

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

 

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENT:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Provide classroom and laboratory instruction to students
  • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities
  • Develop and prepare supplement materials to enhance textbook lessons
  • Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance
  • Maintain and submit all required paperwork in a neat, accurate and timely fashion, including but not limited to: class rosters, registration forms, pay sheets, attendance forms and grade rosters
  • Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area and in accordance with CFCC policies and guidelines

 

Other Important Functions:

  • Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons and recommend improvements as needed
  • Oversee and participate in field studies and assignments; travel with students to provide assistance and instruction as appropriate
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

 

  • Classroom and laboratory instructional techniques and procedures
  • Small engine theory
  • 2-stroke, 4-stroke and compact diesel engines
  • Drivelines, generators, electrical systems, reel mower components and mechanical systems
  • General safety and tools
  • Industry insight and education

 

Ability To:

  • Interpret and apply College goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
    1. Making observations
    2. Reading and writing
    3. Communicating with others
    4. Operating assigned equipment

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
