This position requires a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Spanish courses,

 

Minimum Experience:

 

No prior experience is required but there is a preference that an applicant have prior teaching experience, indicated below, as a Spanish Instructor on the college level

Prior experience in teaching at post-secondary level is preferred

 

Knowledge of and ability to teach one or more of the Spanish courses offered in the Humanities Department (Elementary Spanish I and II, and Intermediate Spanish I and II)

Position Description

DEFINITION:

 

Spanish Instructors must have broad competencies in Spanish and be able to provide CFCC students with classroom and/or online Spanish language instruction through lectures, demonstrations, online laboratories and in class exercises, handouts, responding to questions, and appropriate assessments. 

 

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Receives direct supervision from the Chair of the Humanities Department

 

  • Exercises no supervision

 

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

 

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTION STATEMENT:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Provide classroom and online laboratory instruction to students using Blackboard Ultra
  • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities; develop, and prepare supplemental materials to enhance textbook lessons
    1. online course may not use more than ?  of third party platform content
  • Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance; grade and record individual scores
  • Ensure that all instruction given to students, including lectures, tests, demonstrations, online laboratory exercises, and service projects are consistent with disciplinary and Departmental standards and follow the directions of the Department Chair
  • Maintain timely and accurate records of student attendance and performance using the College’s online systems
  • Maintain other records and databases according to program needs or accreditation requirements
  • Stay abreast of new developments and changes in the academic field
  • Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area, Department, and the College

Other Important Functions:

  • Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons and revise and improve lesson format when necessary
  • Evaluate various text books and select books to be used for future classes
  • Assist in the recruitment of students from the community and area high schools
  • Participate in a variety of student related administrative activities including reviewing admission requirements, progress, and qualifications for graduation
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
  • Be willing to accept classroom assignments on any of CFCC’s campus locations: Downtown, North campus, Burgaw campus, Surf City Campus, or other satellite campus locations. 

 

Qualifications

 
 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Knowledge of:

 

  • Classroom and/or online and online laboratory instructional techniques and procedures, Blackboard Ultra
  • Principles and procedures of academic and instructional program development and administration in Spanish instruction
  • Workplace Safety
  • Current trends in the academic area
  • Principles and procedures of academic record keeping
  • Principles and techniques involved in development and administration of appropriate assessments in Spanish courses

 

Ability To:

 

  • Interpret and apply College goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
    1. Making observations
    2. Reading and writing
    3. Communicating with others
    4. Operating assigned equipment
    5. Handling varied tasks simultaneously

 

  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which include the following:
    1. Standing or sitting for extended periods of time

    3. Handling varied tasks simultaneously 
    4. Bending, stooping, climbing, or lifting up to 50 pounds

 

  • Maintain mental capacity, which allow the capability of:
    1. Making sound decisions
    2. Responding to questions
    3. Demonstrating intellectual capabilities.

 

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
