Minimum Qualifications

Required:  Bachelor degree in Education, Student Development, Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or related field from a regionally accredited college or university; Minimum of one year of increasingly responsible experience working in an educational environment providing direct student services (i.e., academic advising, career services, TRIO, Workforce Education)

Experience working with MS Office, electronic information management systems/database software; Experience with presentations in a classroom or virtual setting; Experience working with privacy laws and confidentiality issues;

Experience in providing effective referrals for students or clients;

Demonstrated competencies in written and verbal communication, including interpersonal skills and the ability to positively work with various offices.

Position Description

THIS IS A PART-TIME GRANT FUNDED POSITION THRU 2023.  NOT TO EXCEED 25 HOURS PER WEEK.  

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that students receive a positive and holistic experience during their initial intake/onboarding that takes place in admissions. Likewise, the Success Coach provides advising regarding career exploration. As well as that, the Success Coach is also responsible for retention strategies with student cohorts.

 

Administrative Responsibilities, Program Planning

During the onboarding, tailor academic and wrap around support and coaching with culturally responsive educational retention methods through individual meetings and collective programming

Academic - plan programs and provide services that support students in successfully completing each semester and continued persistence

Conduct one-on-one success meetings with students every semester - Schedule, plan and provide one on cine success meetings with student cohorts

Assesses initial strengths and challenges in students' academic, career, and personal pathway by identifying factors that enhance or prevent academic progress, examines alternatives based on changing goals, academic progress or personal situation, and interpreting analytics to guide and empower students to establish realistic academic and career goals. This includes a transfer or employment strategy, developing an educational pathway plan, and referral to program faculty advisors for specific career guidance;

Provides expertise assisting students in choosing a program of study that achieve their educational and career goals;

Refers students to campus resources for exploring careers and pathways;

Communicates with student caseload systematically, frequently, and intentionally through multiple methods, including but not limited to face-to-face meetings, college-supported technology solutions, e-mail, telephone, text messages, and social media.

Informs students about alternatives, limitations and possible consequences of academic decisions (e.g. adding, dropping and withdrawing from courses; change of program, major and/or transfer institution);

Independently utilizes technology for advising and comprehensive retention management of student advisees;

Provides information, analyzes data, generates written reports regarding their caseload progress as requested, and contributes to the development of the college's annual effectiveness reports;

Conducts exit interviews with students who withdraw from the college in order to improve current retention plans and develop new plans to address emerging issues;

Ensures student caseload is adhering to their prescribed pathway and Graduation Plan, particularly  through  continuous,  on-time  enrollment  for each  quarter.

 

Tracking, Assessment, Data Input

Maintain accurate and detailed student data spreadsheets and track student performance

Develop reports/spreadsheets on the student's academic success and steps towards completion

Data management and data entry

Work side by side with the Assistant Admissions Director to do the onboard advising upon being admitted to the college.

 

Campus and community wide partnerships

Collaborate with internal and external constituents (including faculty, staff, other directors) to provide academic enrichment and personal development opportunities for students

Advocate for the needs of students in the Cohort in the development of college policies, programs, and services

Maintain strong partnerships with on-campus partners (Financial Aid, Admissions, Registrar) and support on-campus retention initiatives.
