Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education/Training:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in English, education, or a related field. 

Minimum Experience:

  • Previous teaching experience in subject areas is required. 

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:

  • Previous teaching experience at a community college or university; experience using instructional technologies, such as BlackBoard; and teaching online or computer-assisted courses are preferred. 
  • A Master’s degree in English, education, or a related field is preferred.

Position Description

DEFINITION:
To provide classroom instruction to curriculum students needing developmental instruction in English. Instruction will be provided through lecture, demonstration, online platform, laboratory exercises and handouts, responding to questions and testing. 
 
 
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Receives direct supervision from the Department Chair
  • Exercises no supervision

 

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide classroom and laboratory instruction to students
  • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities
  • Develop and prepare supplement materials to enhance online lessons
  • Evaluate student performance by grading writing assignments and tests
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance
  • Maintain and submit all required paperwork in a neat, accurate and timely fashion, including but not limited to: class rosters, pay sheets, attendance forms and grade rosters
  • Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area and in accordance with CFCC policies and guidelines

 
Other Important Functions:

  • Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons and recommend improvements as needed
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Mastery of Subject Matter 

  • Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge in the teaching discipline 
  • Display ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of the field or discipline 
  • Connect the subject matter with related fields 
  • Stay current in the subject matter through professional development; involvement in professional organizations; and attending professional meetings, conferences, and/or workshops 
  • Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience

Teaching Performance 

  • Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning 
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students 
  • Effectively utilize computer-based instructional software and technology 
  • Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs 
  • Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate student assignments 
  • Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives

Evaluation of Student Learning 

  • Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives  
  • Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives  
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning 
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grades each semester according to established deadlines  
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances
  • Turn in attendance, final exam, and grades in an appropriate manner at the end of the semester

Ability To:

  • Utilize campus email for communication between instructor and students and supervisors
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
