QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge Of:
SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW welding methods, uses, and practices.
Methods of obtaining certification and employment in the field.
Principles and procedures of academic and instructional techniques and procedures.
Current trends, research and development in the field of welding.
Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration.
Ability To:
Read, create, and follow blueprints
Work independently in the absence of supervision
Understand and follow oral and written instructions
Interpret and apply college goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
- Making observations
- Reading and writing
- Communicating with other
- Operating assigned equipment
- Handling varied tasks simultaneously
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which include the following:
- Standing or sitting for extended periods of time
- Operating assigned equipment
- Handling varied tasks simultaneously
Maintain mental capacity, which allow the capability of:

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES
Experience:
At least 5 years’ experience as a welder.
Education/Training:
A Diploma in Welding Technology or closely related field from an accredited college or university;
Or
Certified Welding Inspector Certification with five years relevant work experience;
Or
At least 10 years of relevant work experience that provide the appropriate level of training and experience required to provide the necessary skills, knowledge, and abilities for academic and professional preparation of the assigned area of instruction.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred:
Previous teaching experience in a welding environment or a closely related field.
Classes are held in the day, evening and on Saturdays.
Position Description
DEFINITION:
To provide classroom instruction to students through lecture, demonstration, and laboratory exercises, handouts, responding to questions and testing.
DISTINGUSHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Employees within this class perform general instructional duties including record keeping. Employees at this level receive instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:Receives general supervision from the Director of Pender County.
Exercises no supervision.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):
ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTION STATEMENTS—Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Essential functions:
Follow college policies and procedures and ensure adherence by students.
Provide classroom and/or online instruction to students.
Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities.
Develop and prepare supplement materials and/or visual aides to enhance textbook lessons.
Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance; grade record individual scores.
Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate.
Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance.
Maintain other records and/or databases in accordance with program and accreditation requirements.
Participate in curriculum development, evaluation and changes as needed
Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area.
Maintain and submit all required paperwork in a neat, accurate and timely fashion, including but not limited to class rosters, pay sheets, attendance forms, and grade rosters.
Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons; revise/improve lessons as needed.
Other Important Functions:
Basic computer skills like MS Office, PPT or Google Docs. Record keeping like attendance is kept on the computer.
Perform other duties as assigned.
