Minimum Qualifications
ALA-accredited MLS or MSLS
Three years professional library experience
Knowledge of library/bibliographic instruction and learning technologies; familiarity with emerging theories related to teaching and learning in higher education
Experience in the design and presentation of instructional sessions and materials
Experience in marketing and promoting library services
Experience with managing digital resources such as discovery services, proxy servers, and research databases
Proficiency in written and interpersonal communication skills, as well as excellent listening/participatory skills
Demonstrated initiative, teamwork and creative problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to undertake concurrent multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and set reasonable goals and time frames for work to be accomplished
Ability to work independently and with supervisor and co-workers in a changing environment
Active participation in the library profession with a commitment to continued personal and professional development
Preferred Qualifications
Broad understanding of the functions and mission of a community college library and current trends
Three years community college professional library experience
Position Description
The Public Services Librarian will provide leadership in promoting and providing professional library services to campus and distance education students, faculty, staff, and community patrons with respect to reference services and instruction about the library and its resources. Participates in collection development; policy, planning and budget development; college committees and professional organizations related to academic library services.
Provides bibliographic instruction for students enrolled in seated and distance learning classes
Provides training for faculty and staff in using library resources
Creates print and digital instructional materials, bibliographies, and information guides
Provides circulation and reference assistance in person and via phone or electronic means
Takes primary responsibility for circulation desk activities including staffing
Promotes and markets library services to students, faculty, staff, and community users through print, web and social media
Assists with the development of library programming
Assists with collection development by recommending additions to the collection, working with faculty on departmental acquisitions, and weeding assigned subject areas of the collection
Assists with the management of online resources including discovery service, proxy service and electronic databases
Assists with the selection of digital library resources such as e-books and electronic databases
Hires, trains and supervises work-study students. Coordinates work-study timesheets and schedules
Assists with the development of library displays and signage
Assists with inventories
Produces and updates library publications
Participates in ongoing assessment activities to enhance services that support teaching and learning
Participates in professional development opportunities (10 hrs. required) and on-campus activities, including graduation
Serves on campus committees and participates in professional organizations related to academic libraries
