Minimum Education/Training:
- Associate degree
- Extensive knowledge of high-speed duplicating/copying equipment.
- Extensive knowledge of duplicating and bindery equipment.
- Three years operating high-volume, high-speed copier/printer equipment
- Using word processing, spreadsheet, and other computer applications
- Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud Suite
- Ability to work in a customer service-oriented team environment to accomplish shared goals
- Strong attention to detail
- Knowledge of graphic design software and ability to create designs that meet CFCC brand standards.
- Ability to learn and recognize designs that conform to CFCC brand rules and identify violations that must be addressed before printing.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Advanced computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Experience creating and meeting design and publication timelines.

Position Description
DEFINITION:
The Publications Technician operates digital presses, printers, copiers, cutting, sorting, and bindery equipment to create high-quality printed materials for Cape Fear Community College and the Wilson Center. It is responsible for preparing and outputting files from customer-provided files to printers and maintaining and operating high-volume digital network printers and related equipment. The position is also responsible for prepping jobs for print and quality control of print jobs.

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Ability To:
- Operate digital presses, bindery equipment, copiers, drill presses, stapling machines, sign-making tools, and related equipment to produce various materials, including handouts, tests, syllabi, forms, flyers, brochures, class schedules, signs, booklets, etc.
- Proficiently use a desktop computer, industry-standard software, and software interface equipment.
- Process customer tickets for copy, print, design, and related services
- Edit and merge different digital formats for output
- Communicate with internal clients to offer feedback and guidance for the best results
- Provide office coverage by greeting visitors and answering phones to ensure quality customer service
- Monitor expendable inventory and order and stock supplies; notify supervisor of shortages; complete purchasing procedures as needed.
- Perform minor repair and preventive maintenance on equipment; contact outside maintenance contractors for service repair as appropriate.
- Exercise critical thinking and mathematical skills to determine correct material use and appropriate and effective use of available equipment, supplies, and technologies,
- Exercise critical thinking skills to effectively prioritize projects and manage time and workload to realize efficiencies.
- Effectively maintain records regarding completion of work requests; allocate job costs as appropriate; assign costs to various projects.
- Bill departments as needed and work with the business office to settle accounts
- Coordinate with supervisor to manage and balance the workload during peak production times.
- Review copyrights for printing assignments; ensure all copy work complies with legal restrictions and CFCC brand guidelines.
- Follow proper procedures in handling tests and other instructional materials. Appropriately handle and secure confidential documents.
- Employ methods of quality control to recognize errors in publications and communicate with customers to make corrections.
- Troubleshoot all equipment, including clearing copier paper jams, changing ink cartridges and toner, and occasionally communicating technical issues to copier technical support.
- Perform other duties assigned.
- Provide office coverage by greeting visitors and answering phones to ensure quality customer service is provided to visitors.
