Licensing Requirement: Satellite Coordinator must:

  1. Hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapy (RRT) credential and current North Carolina state license;
  2. Have a minimum of four (4) years experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years in clinical respiratory care;

Have a minimum of two (2) years experience in teaching for an accredited respiratory care program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor

Preferred Qualifications

Masters degree preferred.

 

Position Description

Statement of Primary Purpose:

This is a liaison position between the satellite facility at Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC) and the base program at Southwestern Community College (SCC); Collectively called the Western Carolina Respiratory Care Consortium. The Satellite Coordinator is responsible to the SCC and BRCC Deans of Health Sciences.  This person is to provide instructional services to students and is responsible for all student and staff activities for the satellite program. Administrative aspects include fiscal planning, continuous review and analysis, planning and development, and the overall effectiveness of the satellite respiratory therapy program. Educational responsibilities include teaching and curriculum development and review. The Satellite coordinator must sustain high quality teaching performance in respiratory therapy including appropriate course loads. This load may include seated, hybrid, and online classes with day, evening and/or weekend course assignments which may include courses at any campus location or at any area high school. The position will be based at the Transylvania County Campus (TCC) but is expected to teach at all locations when necessary. This position must provide effective leadership for the Respiratory Therapy Program including, but not limited to, responsibility for communication, ongoing program planning and assessment, and fiscal management.

 

Classification: Curriculum faculty, 9- month plus full summer session, exempt

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  1. Communicates and collaborates with the SCC Program Director, SCC and BRCC Deans of Health Sciences, SCC Director of Clinical education, the Satellite Clinical Coordinator, and BRCC Co-Medical Director to ensure that instruction is coordinated, and that all students receive adequate medical and technical instruction and learning experiences in the classroom and clinical settings.
  2. Continuous curriculum development and review as well as teaching. Ensures courses are up-to-date, abreast of technology, and in compliance with state and national accreditation standards.
  3. Supervises and coordinates the faculty and clinical instructors at the satellite affiliate and periodically evaluates the quality, contribution, and appropriateness of all individuals participating in classroom and clinical instruction there.
  4. Maintains regular and consistent contact with the SCC Program Director, satellite students and satellite faculty.
  5. Assists the Program Director and participates in ongoing program daily operations of: budget planning, program planning and development, ongoing review and analysis of all program activities, ensuring that the program meets the requirements of accreditation standards according to the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
  6. Responsibilities include recruitment activities, maintaining and evaluating laboratory equipment, and ordering of consumable supplies for the satellite program.
  7. Serves as advisor to potential and new respiratory care students at the satellite location
  8.  Plans and implements a respiratory program orientation each new school year.
  9. Assists in implementing SCC and BRCC policies, objectives and functions in accordance with college procedures.
  10. Recruits, screens, recommends and oversees orientation of new satellite faculty.
  11. Assists Program Director with program reports, including but not limited to the annual program review and maintenance of accreditation standards to include (if appropriate):
    1. Self-study
    2. Site visits
    3. Annual reports
  12. Participates in the Advisory Committee meetings and faculty meetings when requested.
  13. Maintains teaching course load in compliance with college and accreditation workload policy.
  14. Maintains student records in compliance with accreditation standards.
  15. Maintains mastery and currency in the Respiratory Therapy discipline.
  16. Promotes excellence in teaching and service by setting high standards of academic and professional performance.
  17. Maintains safe and orderly laboratory spaces, and ensures the proper maintenance and usage of laboratory equipment.
  18. Maintains laboratory supply inventory and works with the Dean of Health Sciences and other faculty members at BRCC to ensure adequate supplies are available for all courses and labs.
  19. Ensures compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of BRCC and SCC, the NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in extracurricular committee and campus support functions to include: scholarships, grants, campus marketing, accreditation, inter-institutional and system cooperative programs.
  • Program planning and support of Institutional Effectiveness plan.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with all college employees while at the same time demonstrating sensitivity to and respect for a diverse population.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:

The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated equipment.
