Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education is required

Licensing Requirement:

The Clinical Coordinator must:

a. Hold a valid RRT credential and current North Carolina state license;

b. have a minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years’ in clinical respiratory care;

c. Has a minimum of two (2) years’ experience teaching for an accredited respiratory care program either an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor.

Position Description

Statement of Primary Purpose

The Respiratory Therapy Satellite Clinical Coordinator must be responsible for all aspects of the clinical experiences of students enrolled in the satellite respiratory therapy program at Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC). This includes the organization, administration, continuous review and revision, planning for and development of location for evolving practice skills. This also includes responsibility for the general effectiveness of the clinical experience for students at the satellite facility. The Clinical Coordinator assigns students to clinical sites, ensures facility onboarding requirements are satisfactorily met prior to the start of rotations, maintains clinical related documentation and verify student’s clinical performance. This person also serves as a point of contact for the clinic sites. In order to achieve this goal, it is expected that the Clinical Coordinator will maintain consistent communications with clinical educators, preceptors, and trainers and make regular visits to the sites where students are being trained.

 

Essential Functions of Job

  1. Organizes the satellite clinical rotations, and schedules for clinical rotations.
  2. Facilitates the student clinic onboarding process
  3. Serves as a point of contact for clinical facilities
  4. Communicates and works with clinical preceptors and clinical staff in a cooperative, professional manner.
  5. Monitors student performance routinely at clinical sites on a regular basis throughout the semester.
  6. Maintains ongoing communication with hospital staff as to clinical schedules and status of student experience.
  7. Evaluates the effectiveness and progression of the clinical experience.
  8. Maintains clinic related documentation according to CoARC standards and requirements. 
  9. Ensures there are sufficient and a variety of clinical sites for students in the satellite program to be placed for clinical rotations.
  10. Maintains credentials as required by accrediting agencies and regulatory bodies
  11. Demonstrates and maintains current respiratory therapy area knowledge
  12. Responsible for teaching the clinical preceptor education program (PEP) course to satellite preceptors and giving CEU’s for participation in the PEP course under the guidance of the Director of Clinical Education.
  13. Work with students in the laboratory or clinical setting to assist them in developing skill proficiencies when indicated.
  14. Prepare and teach assigned courses in accordance with course outlines and published course schedule.
  15. Maintain accurate records for each course taught.
  16. Appropriately challenge, engage, support and communicate with students to encourage their participation and learning in a professional, respectful environment.
  17. Prepare, review, and update course outlines on a regular basis.
  18. Ensures course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the course syllabus
  19. Assists the satellite coordinator with curriculum planning and development of courses
  20. Recommend and assist with curriculum revisions as necessary.
  21. Assist in student recruitment, advising, and retention.
  22. Participate in curriculum advisory committee meetings, if applicable.
  23. Assist in selection and ordering of equipment, supplies, resources, and textbooks, if applicable.
  24. Participate in college events and activities.
  25. Cooperate in scheduled student evaluations of instructor and course.
  26. Submit all college reports in an accurate timely fashion.
  27. Be responsible for professional development and maintaining professional competence.
  28. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and clinical affiliates.
  29. Maintain teaching course load in compliance with college and accreditation workload policy
  30. Adhere to academic policies and procedures for SCC and BRCC.

 

Additional Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • As satellite clinical coordinator, serve as liaison between Blue Ridge Community college, Southwestern Community College and the clinical education sites.  
  • Is responsible for the establishment of clinical sites and clinical faculty standards under the direction of the satellite coordinator, director of clinical education and the program director.
  • Plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer and monitor activities on behalf of the academic program and in coordination with academic and clinical facility.
  • Establish and maintain affiliation agreements between educational institution and clinical organization.
  • Attends BRCC commencements
  • Serves on college and division committees as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education: 

Associate degree (baccalaureate preferred) from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education is required.   

 

Knowledge and Skills

Minimum of four years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist and two years of clinical respiratory care.

  • The clinical coordinator should pursue ongoing formal training designed to maintain and upgrade professional instruction and administrative competencies.
  • Have the ability to operate and demonstrate all equipment required to perform the duties of a respiratory therapist.

 

Physical Demands:

The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, walking, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated equipment.
