Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• Proficiency of relevant software applications including MS Office
• Proficiency in customer service skills
• Ability to communicate positively and cooperatively with students and co-workers
• Ability to interact with students from diverse educational backgrounds
• Ability to work independently while contributing to the team environment
• Organizational skills with an attention to detail and accuracy
• Availability to work at least one evening per week

Preferred Qualifications

 

• Experience in working with adult students
• Experience working with diverse populations
• Bi-lingual in English and Spanish

Position Description

Job Description

The Retention and Success Coach is a part-time position (15-20 hours per week) with duties primarily located on the OCH Campus in Monroe, NC. Under the direction of the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Coordinator, the Retention and Success Coach assists students and instructors in identifying barriers to student success and implementing proactive strategies that promote retention. The expectation of this position is to impact MSG rates by increasing retention and transition to post-secondary education or the workforce.

Job Duties

• Expertly interact with data, presentation, email, and other institutional software
• Participate in student orientation sessions for incoming English Language Learners
• Monitor rosters and attendance data regularly to target at-risk students
• Communicate directly with students via phone, text, email or other media
• Prepare and implement intervention plans for at-risk students to stay engaged or reengage
• Provide positive support and manage barriers with internal and community support services
• Work collaboratively with staff and instructors to support student transitions within the program
• Assist students in transition goals to postsecondary education or the workforce
• Participate in appropriate training sessions
• Other duties as designated by the ESOL Coordinator or the Dean of the School of College and Career Readiness
