Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:    

Under general supervision, the retention specialist will enhance student engagement and conduct student retention activities, administrative, record keeping, and pathway planning.  The employee will provide a pathway plan that schedules exam milestones and program completion in twelve months or less. The employee will also coach and tutor students as needed and encourage them to continue their education beyond their high school equivalency or high school diploma.  The employee actively seeks to decrease the number of students exiting the program without completing their high school equivalency or adult high school diploma. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:                                                                                                                                         

  • Performs retention efforts that are defined by consistent communication that informs students of courses, community resources, CEWD scholarships, career pathways, and credentials
  • Responsible for organization attendance tracking, attendance summaries, tracking of academic progress, monthly reports, instructor communication, email/written communication, in person interviews and phone conversations with foundational studies students
  • Organizes activities or programs for student engagement
  • Monitors student progress, career counseling, collaborating with faculty, referring to resources and developing student success
  • Supports effective communication between members of the Foundational Studies team
  • Offers assistance as needed to enrolled students at all foundational studies locations
  • Assists students with the graduation process, manages graduation petitions
  • Weekly test proctoring
  • Participates in recruitment activities and events on campus and within the community
  • Other duties as assigned

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Three years of experience in education

  • Masters in counseling or related field

  • Knowledge and support of College policies and procedures
  • Must have the ability to communicate with all levels of staff, faculty,  students, and the public in the performance of the job
