  • Proficient in developing records systems, reports and secure system processing requirements. Working knowledge of customer security requirements and incident investigation. Advanced computer skills working with Microsoft Office Suite, Web-based systems and other proprietary databases.

Position Description

DEFINITION:

The Safety and Security Coordinator acts as a liaison with contracted public safety and security agencies. This position is primarily responsible for developing college procedures, and providing consulting and advising related to safety issues to ensure that the college is in compliance with laws, rules, policies, and procedures that regulate safety compliance.

In addition, this position will schedule and maintain parking at all campuses.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Receives direct supervision from the Executive Director of Safety and Auxiliary Services
  • Supervises parking attendants and security staff; provides direction or advice to contracted personnel

 

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

 

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to:

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain, update, and revise the CFCC Emergency Response Plan as needed and assist in the development and implementation of safety policies.
  • Coordinate the relationship with public safety and security agencies including coverage and scheduling.
  • Communicate with local law enforcement/emergency responders as needed.
  • Observe, accurately report and follow up on incidents which may include but are not limited to first aid, life safety, and internal theft.
  • Assist with the coordination of emergency drills and workshops to ensure a safe working and educational environment for students, employees, and visitors.
  • Respond to reports from faculty, staff, and students of unsafe and/or hazardous areas and conditions. 
  • Make sound decisions during emergency situations based on the College's policies and procedures.
  • Monitor access control and fire safety systems and assist in completing inspections.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance on necessary repairs and safety issues.
  • Ensure students, employees, vendors, and visitors follow safety and security related policies and procedures.
  • Maintain oversight of security camera footage and systems as well as classroom emergency response system.
  • Recommend to supervisor on what safety policies are needed.
  • Develop a strategic plan for all events and coordinate logistical details and serve as a point of contact

Other Important Functions:

  • May conduct and/or participate in investigations.
  • Serves on the Safety Committee.
  • Coordinate with Human Resource Office/OSHA to deliver required training to affected employees and maintain documentation. 
  • Develop and implement campus-wide inspection program to identify unsafe and/or hazardous conditions; perform building safety audits and correction documentation.
  • Assist faculty and staff in updating and maintaining chemical inventory and MSDS files.
  • Ensure First Aid Stations are stocked.  
  • Oversee employee safety inquiries from the DOL/Occupational Safety and Health Division and provide primary assistance with OSHA investigations.

 

Qualifications

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge:

  • Microsoft Office Suite software, Web-based Systems
  • Knowledge of FERPA, Title IX, Clery, HIPAA and other relevant laws and regulations
  • General knowledge of OSHA regulations
  • An understanding and commitment to the mission and philosophy of the North Carolina Community College System
  • Logistics, CFCC operations, and procedures.
  • Pertinent Federal, State, and Local codes, regulations, and routine security procedures. ABC Commission, NHC Health Department.

Ability To:

  • Communicate clearly and respectfully, both orally and in writing
  • Physical fitness to inspect various work settings
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift, at times, 25 lbs. 
  • Work indoors and outdoors
  • Sufficient visual acuity and manual dexterity to use a computer for long periods of time
  • Ability to express or exchange ideas through oral communication and to hear vocal responses within classroom range
  • Travel between buildings on campus, to other campuses, or locally or out-of-town to attend conferences.
  • Display sensitivity to the needs and expectations of students, faculty, staff and community groups.
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
