Minimum Qualifications
An associate degree is required; a bachelor’s degree is preferred. A major or concentration in safety, general administration, business management, construction, or industrial applications is preferred. Three to five years of experience in industrial or organizational safety programs and applications or an equivalent amount of education and experience is required. Effective interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, including the ability to communicate professionally, orally, and in writing. Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software packages, including web-based technology tools. Occupational Safety and Health Administration OSHA 30 certification is required, or the ability to complete OSHA 30 certification within 60 days of employment. North Carolina Department of Labor Manager of Environmental, Safety and Health (MESH) certification is preferred. OSHA Instructor Training / Train the Trainer is preferred. A National Career Readiness Certificate and bilingual in English and Spanish are preferred.

Position Description
Coordinate and collaborate with Human Resources and all Operations Division entities to provide robust support of all initiatives of the College, helping to ensure a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for the employees, students, and visitors of all WCC locations. Coordinate and implement a campus safety plan that is effective in reducing the College’s Experience Modification Rate, while being consistent with the experience of a high-quality institution of higher education. Serve as the primary point of contact and responsible party for all Workers’ Compensation claims, investigations, reporting, and resolutions. Serve as organizational Subject Matter Expert on all state and federal OSH-related procedures, rules, and standards. Coordinate maintenance of the College’s OSH-related procedures and plans. Coordinate inspections of all organizational facilities and grounds for OSH hazards. Assist with facilities and grounds inspections for insurance and compliance purposes. Coordinate maintenance of the College’s electronic Safety Data Sheet database. Manage inspections of construction, renovation, and repair project sites for compliance with safety standards. Include equipment installation, repair, and removal activities in project inspection. Maintain logs of project safety inspections. Submit reports to responsible personnel for project safety audits requiring attention or awareness of findings. Inspect and maintain AED systems, emergency eyewash/showers, first aid kits, evacuation chairs, and other related safety devices as assigned. Coordinate any required maintenance or replacement outside individual capacity. Maintain inspection logs for all safety-related devices. Coordinate updates and responses to the Communicable Disease Plan. Coordinate effective organizational safety-related signage, to include safety plan cards, evacuation route maps, emergency device signs, accident prevention awareness signs, etc.
