Under the direction of the Dean of Student Learning & Engagement, the Science Lab Technician provides support to college faculty by giving laboratory and field assistance as specified by faculty.  In order to accomplish the objectives of the position, the Science Lab Technician performs the following functions:

Essential Duties:

• Performs highly-skilled laboratory functions and other technical duties in support of coursework. 
• Sets up, maintains, and organizes student laboratories.
• Assists students with setting up experiments and other learning exercises, and with the use of equipment and materials.
• Maintains appropriate safety and hygiene standards.
• Maintains required documentation related to laboratory activities.
• Manages equipment and materials inventories.
• Assists faculty with technology components of courses
• Work in the day, evening, on Saturday, at unconventional times or via distance learning as necessary
• Demonstrate commitment to the community college "open door" philosophy and the comprehensive community college concept

Biology/Chemistry Technician

• Sets up each laboratory to which he/she is assigned (laboratories for one or more of the following subjects: General Biology, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, Zoology, Botany, Introductory Chemistry, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry) including the following tasks (as appropriate):
• Assembly of materials and equipment required in the lab
• Preparation of chemicals, mixtures, and solutions
• Preparation of microbial cultures
• Restore equipment and unused materials after completion of the lab
• Final clean up and preparation of laboratory room for the next class
