Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of and commitment to the mission and philosophy of the North Carolina Community College System
- Demonstrated ability to use modern instructional technology (Microsoft Office, learning management systems, e-mail, Internet, student information databases, library research databases)
- Competence in oral and written communication skills
- Ability to be organized, accurate, and punctual with paperwork and assigned tasks
- Sensitivity to the needs and expectations of students, colleagues, and community groups
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, civil, and respectful communication and interpersonal relations throughout the college and the community

Essential Functions, Job Duties, and Responsibilities:
The Science Laboratory Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining science laboratories, as assigned, for safe and effective teaching and learning, and assisting with inventorying and storing necessary instructional supplies and materials for science courses at both Main and the Orange County Campuses. The Science Laboratory Coordinator will work closely with his or her Discipline Chair, the Science Laboratory Manager, and other faculty on matters related to and for the benefit of the SEM department and its students. More specifically, and consistent with the terms and conditions of appointment as stipulated in the contract of employment, the Science Laboratory Coordinator is accountable for the duties listed below:
Science Laboratory Coordinator
- Ensure that all assigned science laboratories are adequately arranged, supplied, and equipped for timely, safe and effective teaching and learning;
- Ensure that consumable and non-consumable instructional supplies and equipment required for laboratory procedures are procured and available for timely instruction;
- Coordinate the proper maintenance of laboratory equipment in assigned labs;
- Ensure laboratory equipment and materials are properly autoclaved, when required;
- Coordinate maintaining inventories and other documents and records as required;
- Coordinate assembly of kits for at-home labs;
- Maintain training and other professional development opportunities on- or off-campus and stay current with developments in the field;
- Assume responsibility for laboratory preparation, including minor maintenance and cleanup, and recommend, as necessary, appropriate laboratory supplies and equipment;
- Assume other necessary responsibilities and perform additional tasks as assigned by the science lab manager, chair, department dean, chief instructional officer, or president, in meeting the needs of the department, division, and college;

Normal Working Hours: A minimum of a 40-hour work week as determined with the supervisor to allow the employee to fulfill the assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include evening and weekend hours.
