Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • ability to acquire knowledge of the campus facilities and equipment locations
  • able to prioritize activities to accomplish duties in a timely manner
  • able to calmly handle emergency situations
  • ability to communicate; read and write in English
  • ability to problem-solve or report problem identification
  • possess above average diplomacy and professionalism in dealing with confrontations, employees, students and the general public

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • possess a valid NC Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPR, Fire Extinguisher, First Aid and First Responder training preferred
  • prior law enforcement or military experience preferred

Position Description

Job Summary:

Provides necessary security measures for a safe environment in which to work and study.  Augments, when possible, the functions of all other departments to make them more efficient and productive. 

 

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • controls access to and from buildings through mobile and walking patrols
  • controls traffic to ensure compliance with Mitchell Community College rules and regulations on parking and vehicle operation
  • provides written communication to the supervisor on matters concerning safety and security on campus
  • acts as response coordinator in case of fire and/or evacuation
  • enforces all rules and regulations of the College by reporting infractions to the supervisor or their designee
  • open and close facilities for any outside activities as scheduled
  • provide supervisor with incident reports covering investigated events/complaints
    • includes any incidents on campus with local emergency responders
  • maintains knowledge and proficiency of assignments during implementation of facility disaster and emergency preparedness plans
  • performs visible inspection of hygienic appearances of facility and reports discrepancies
  • actively seeks out opportunities to improve safety conditions in the facility, i.e., reporting spills in corridors and other floors to housekeeping when discovered or notifying appropriate individuals when adverse conditions are suspected/noted

 

Related Responsibilities:

  • answers telephones as appropriate
  • possesses general familiarity with workstations of employees and names of administration
  • controls building lighting to eliminate waste
  • follows safe work practices and wears appropriate personal protective equipment when necessary
  • maintains knowledge of location and contents of departmental procedures
  • check all doors and windows in all buildings to make certain that they are secured
  • check for any unauthorized personnel on college grounds
