Position Description

Description

The Facilities Services Electrician in charge of maintaining Durham Technical Community College's buildings and equipment is responsible for all general maintenance, electrical, and mechanical tasks. They use their extensive knowledge to troubleshoot and resolve campus issues quickly and efficiently. The employee is expected to complete all assigned tasks in a collaborative, safe, and proficient manner, meet the Facility Services Department's goals, and fulfill all duties outlined in their employment contract. 

Examples of Duties

 

  1. Ensuring proper maintenance, and performing repairs and modifications as necessary(within in-house capabilities) on all electrical equipment and systems.
  2. Performing preventive maintenance as defined by the manufacturer or the Facility Services Department specifications.
  3.  Install, maintain, and enhance electrical systems and components, including fuses, lights, and wiring.
  4. Inspect, test, and diagnose issues with electrical systems and components.
  5. Performing and/or assisting with repairs relating to general maintenance, and/or other plumbing, mechanical, or electrical systems as required.
  6. Willing to train and upgrade knowledge in assigned duties.
  7. Showing initiative in the job to ensure a continuous, timely and efficient operation, using good judgment without constant or direct supervision, and being alert for new ideas and improvements.
  8. Ensuring that the workshop, storerooms, and all rooms associated with the general maintenance and electrical equipment are maintained in a clean and orderly manner.
  9. Being prepared to change and adjust schedule by the season, quarter, or semester, and when otherwise necessary to perform tasks deemed appropriate by the Facility Services Director or other appropriate Durham Technical Community College officials.
  10. Willing and readily cooperative in being pulled off of your regular work assignment 
  11. Being respectful of all employees, including your immediate peers.
  12. Uniforms, as furnished by Durham Technical Community College, will be worn during normal working hours and kept clean and neat in appearance.
  13. All safety equipment as furnished by Durham Technical Community College will be used as required by OSHA, the Durham Technical Community College Safety Committee, and the Facility Services Department.
  14. All communication equipment as furnished by Durham Technical Community College will be properly maintained and used in compliance with all FCC regulations and as required by the Facility Services Department.
  15. Following work assignments as given by your supervisor.
  16. Following all work order procedures as directed by your supervisor and required by the Facility Services Department.
  17. Being regular and punctual in attendance and willing to cooperate with the other employees to get the job done.
  18. Additional duties shall include other appropriate activities as assigned by the Director of Facility Services, the Chief Division Officer, and/or the President.

Supplemental Information

 

  1. Being familiar with the operation of all Durham Technical Community College (DT)building operating equipment.
  2. Working knowledge of electrical theory, and the associated principles, materials, and equipment.
  3. Demonstrated ability to operate hand and power tools associated with electrical work and/or general maintenance environment.
  4. Performing preventive maintenance as defined by the manufacturer’s specifications for electrical equipment, and general maintenance.
  5. Ability to repair electrical equipment, mechanical system components, and/or other general maintenance as required.
  6. Willing to train and upgrade knowledge in assigned duties.
  7. Showing initiative in the job to ensure a continuous, timely, and efficient operation, using good judgment without constant or direct supervision, and being alert for new ideas and improvements.
  8. Able to proficiently use a work order system; to update and close within a reasonable time.
  9. Understanding of the mission, goals, and objectives of a facility maintenance organization.
  10. A minimum of 8 hours of continued education in electrical.
  11. Have the ability to read and understand Architectural and Engineering drawings.
  12. Have the ability to organize work, maintain accurate records, and account for numerous details.
  13. Be a reliable, responsible, tactful, resourceful, and trustworthy person with a sincere interest and concerned attitude toward the College and a cooperative disposition in working well with other people, and the ability to understand and follow directions.
