Associate Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Interpreter Training and five years of interpreting experience
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Interpreter Education and 5 years of experience.
National RID certification.
Position Description
General Function
Performs a variety of standard to moderately complex tasks related to providing interpretation and tutorial services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provides interpreting services for deaf and hard of hearing students in classroom, labs, and assemblies.
2. Reviews course schedules, syllabi, and textbooks to develop a general understanding of the lecture to be interpreted.
3. Develops specialized signs to communicate technical terms and concepts.
4. Responds to inquiries and provides information regarding the range and availability of interpreting services.
5. Provides tutorial services for deaf and hard of hearing students on a variety of subjects.
6. Attends workshops and seminars to maintain awareness of innovations in field.
7. Provides information to faculty, staff, students, and the general public to educate them on need and usefulness of services.
8. Consults with supervisor and/or faculty in order to handle any problems or difficulties that arise.
9. Participates in college committees.
10. Develops and maintains procedural guidelines, with Interpreting Services Coordinator, for Interpreting Services (e.g. procedure manual, student video, etc.).
11. Provides coordination support of Interpreting Services in the absence of Interpreting Services Coordinator (e.g. scheduling, rate sheet, observations, etc.).
12. Serves as liaison for Interpreting Services at multi-campuses.
13. May provide minimum career, tutoring or counseling support to students as needed.
14. Other duties as assigned.
