Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent combination of relevant education and library experience.

Three years of library reference and circulation experience.

Position Description

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Coordinate, participate, and direct assigned support activities including circulation and technical services.

Participate in the training and supervision, of assigned library staff, volunteer workers, and student employees; maintains volunteer statistics.

Assist with developing library programs and outreach; conducts library resource orientations for seated classes and student open house events.

Assist with developing and maintaining assigned online research guides using LibGuides 2.0.

Assist new and existing patrons with check-in/check-out of books, library electronic databases and search tools including the online catalog; registers new patrons; issues library cards and keeps records of new registrants; provides high-quality reference and circulation services to in-house library users and to distance education students.

Communicate effectively, may require providing advice to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies. Contacts may require the consideration of different points of view to reach agreement. Elements of persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas.

Compile statistics and data; prepare summary reports and lists.

Develop and organize special projects for assigned staff; assist staff with special projects and research assignments.

Maintain various manual and computerized files and records; enter information into computerized databases; update and revise as required.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:

Adult Learners in higher education.
Standard library procedures including circulation and acquisitions processing.

Understand and perform basic math and accounting functions.

Requires a working knowledge of clerical equipment, office procedures, and library policies.

Ability to:

Perform a variety of advanced technical and clerical library work with speed and accuracy.

Direct the activities of the library support functions when assigned.

Assist patrons in the location of library materials.

Supervise and train part-time staff and student assistants.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Sustain compliance with section II of the SACSCOC standards related to Library and Learning/Information Resources.

Stand and walk for extended periods.

Hear audible equipment (phone, emergency exit, security gate, etc.) indicators and verbal communications in the environment.

Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

See with sufficient clarity up close, at a distance, color, possess good peripheral and depth perception; focus adjustment to differentiate light/color intensity and evaluate perceivable changes to the environment.

Retrieve materials from the Book Drop.

Must have balance and coordination to use step stool and ladder.
