Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
System Administration best practices and procedures.
Microsoft, Linux, UNIX server operating system knowledge.
Advanced knowledge of Hypervisors and VMWare.
Database concepts, installations, best practices.
Information Technology Security concepts and best practices.
Ability to:
Quickly and efficiently, identify and resolve technical issues.
Maintain and manage an extensive electronic mail system.
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of server vetting and patching.
Establish and maintain working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds
Experience and Training Guidelines
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
At least one year of experience with following hardware and software: DELL/HP/MAC, Windows Server (Current Version), Linux, (any/all versions), UNIX (Solaris), Colleague-UniData, SQL, SCCM, Active Directory, MS Exchange.
Training:
An Associate’s degree from an accredited College in Information Systems, Systems Administration, Database Administration or equivalent.

Announcement Summary
Fayetteville Technical Community College seeks a Server Technician to administer and maintain the hardware and software applications used to support the College’s primary administrative and business functions, including the host and all associated administrative servers, active directory services; administer the college’s and business email servers. Manage hardware upgrades/enhancements, and security patches in conjunction with Microsoft System Security Standards and NC Community College System Office
Duties
Receives general direction from the Network Administrator of Management Information Services (MIS).
Essential Duties- Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Install, operate, and administrate Microsoft, Linux, UNIX, and VMware hosts.
Install and maintain electronic mail systems.
Participate in the implementation, configuration, patching, upgrading, and general administration of the UNIX Servers.
Participate in the implementation, configuration, patching, upgrading, and general administration of all College database servers.
Participate in the implementation, configuration, patching, upgrading and general administration of all College Windows Servers.
Perform basic systems security and administration and usage monitoring functions.
Monitor and manage computing resources, including CPU usage, disk usage, and response times to insure optimal performance of both the operating system and database environments.
Perform system backup, backup testing and recovery procedures of all college servers.
Keep current with new security, technology, laws, and regulations.
Maintain system documentation, configurations, setups, and logs.
Frequently required to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and walk.
Occasionally required to climb stairs.
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
Required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
Hear audible equipment indicators and verbal communications in the environment.
Must see with sufficient close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception; and evaluate perceivable changes in the environment.
