Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • subject matter education and/or training and experience that have both the breadth and depth needed to ensure effectiveness in the appropriate subject areas per the guidelines as adopted by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and any appropriate governing agency
  • hold an bachelor degree in nursing from an accredited institution
  • hold a current, unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina
  • work experience includes two calendar years or the equivalent of full-time clinical experience as a registered nurse
  • demonstrated effective and professional written and oral communication skills and organizational skills
  • experience with diverse populations strongly preferred
  • previous experience in simulation lab preferred
  • experience with providing technical support in networking, computer hardware or software
  • demonstrated experience in teaching in a community college setting is a plus
  • skill in operating a PC and Mac with experience in MS Office and the ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment
  • knowledge of operation of standard audio-visual equipment: projectors, microphones, portable screens, media players, etc.
  • ability to express technical information clearly and simply to non-technical individuals

Position Description

Full-time Curriculum Instructors have three areas of responsibility, instructional, advising, and other duties.  Instructional activities require, among other things, subject matter expertise and a thorough preparation for every instructional responsibility. Advising duties demand knowledge of the students' chosen field of study, as well as an understanding of registration, testing, and other procedures.  Other responsibilities include, completion of necessary paperwork, serving on committees, attending College functions, and recruitment and retention activities.
 

This position is primarily responsible for integrating, maintaining and operating computer and audio/video (A/V) technology. This includes patient simulators and surrounding simulation lab equipment. This position manages simulation rooms, patient simulator set-up and take down, application of moulage, and recording and playback of simulations. Responsibilities include assisting in labs and student remediation. This position supports Interprofessional Education (IPE), immersive simulation experiences, and other scheduled patient simulation learning activities. This position collaborates with the Simulation Coordinator and Simulation Lab Assistant.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Programs software to model simulators' physiological responses to instructor/scenario specifications
  • Supports/assists in role-playing applications, props placement, and moulage set-up before and after simulations to create a virtual healthcare setting
  • Sets up and takes down simulation laboratory equipment, which may involve rapid turnover of simulation lab set up
  • Assists with training faculty and staff in the use of simulation equipment
  • Acts as a resource for faculty utilizing simulation and collaborates with faculty in the use of simulation
  • Conducts tours and simulation sessions for internal/external groups and/or individuals
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment as needed for simulation
  • Provides recommendations for budget and purchase of equipment, supplies, and materials related to simulation
  • Performs basic preventative maintenance and up-grades of simulation equipment
  • Maintains and repairs all simulation equipment, including patient simulators, computers, monitors and a variety of medical equipment. This includes troubleshooting equipment malfunctions and contacting vendors as needed
  • Operates and maintains audio/visual equipment used in simulation and in debriefing
  • Maintains current knowledge of simulation/lab equipment catalogs and operation manuals
  • Assist with student activities and remediation in the lab.
  • Follow appropriate course goals and objectives along with evaluation methods which accurately measure student learning
  • Be thoroughly prepared for each instructional responsibility, regardless of setting
  • Be present for the entire scheduled instructional time or provide appropriate class coverage plans to the Division Dean or Director in the case of necessary absences
  • As part of the five-day workweek, maintain a minimum of five office hours per week.
  • Ensure instructional materials comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines.

 Advising:

  • serve as an academic advisor to assigned students
  • be accessible to advisees during registration
  • maintain accurate advisee records
  • follow appropriate guidelines for placement testing into courses
  • follow registration procedures
  • be knowledgeable about the programs of study, catalog requirements, recommended sequences, etc. with respect to assigned advisees' fields of study
  • be an advocate for student success
