Minimum Qualifications

Associate Degree from a regionally accredited institution in a relevant health discipline or technology related field

 

Three years clinical work experience (health related and or technology related)

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in a relevant health or technology discipline

 

Simulation experience with simulation manikins and standardized patients

 

Experience in instructing basic and or advanced life support training

 

Licensure or Certification in health related field highly preferred

Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION AND JOB DUTIES

 

The Simulation Operations Technician position will  be  located on the Central Campus. This is a grant funded position which will end June 30, 2021.  The work schedule is Monday-Friday, weekends possible.  The anticipated start date is May 4, 2020.  

 

Department Overview

Healthcare simulation is a new area within the Health Professions and Human Services area.  A new simulation space will be opening fall 2020 with acute care and outpatient simulation space.  This position will support the educational and experiential learning experiences for all of our health programs.

 

General Function

 This position works as part of team to develop and deliver simulation-based education designed to enhance student learning, quality in healthcare, and patient safety. The main focus of a Simulation Operations Technician is to provide technical support for all simulation operations including preparation, maintenance, and repair of mid and high fidelity manikins and task trainers; and related multimedia peripherals. Duties may also include programming, testing, and running scenarios with faculty instructors or simulation educators, assuring that the facility and equipment are set up for scenarios.  

 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

1.    Participates in scenario and event planning to provide technical expertise on capabilities and limitations of equipment and facility to meet student learning objectives.

2.    Sets up, programs, tests, and runs scenarios and events with sim educators and faculty.  Includes trial runs of events to identify gaps and adjustments required for a successful educational experience.

3.    Work collaboratively with ITS for technical support of computers, LCD projectors, video cameras and microphones, and Learning Space software.

4.    Understands the use and operation of different simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and task trainers, to screen based simulations to full body patient simulators, standardized patients, and virtual reality simulators.

5.    Develop technical proficiency with all aspects of the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair for all simulation equipment.

6.    Serves as a primary contact with equipment manufactures regarding equipment troubleshooting and system problems. Maintains records of repairs.

7.    Schedules and conducts routine equipment preventive maintenance, inventory updates, and equipment purchases. May provide equipment recommendations.

8.    Installs software and hardware upgrades and maintains functionality of manikin components as directed by the manufacturer support.

9.    May assist or lead in costuming and moulage requirements for scenarios and events.

10.  May assist in inventory management of equipment and consumables.

11.  Supports accreditation needs as required.

12.  Actively participates in strategic action plan and program improvement initiatives.

13.  Other duties as assigned.

Strong working knowledge of medical equipment, computer and simulation systems, and  various software systems
