Position Description
Smart Start Student Success Coach position is available in the Early Childhood Department located at the Harris Campus - Harris 1 Building. The position is Grant Funded.
Early Childhood Education provides coursework to prepare participants to earn credentials to work with children that are awarded by the NC Division of Child Development and Early Education.
The successful candidate will provide students with essential learning support services and serve as an individual mentor, as well as monitor their progress and provide the encouragement and support necessary to enable students to complete their course of study.
General Function
Provide for students essential learning support services and serve as an individual mentor to students; monitor the progress of students and provide the encouragement and support necessary to enable students to complete their course of study.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provides individual feedback to Early Childhood Education students that are in academic jeopardy and are in danger of failing.
2.Monitors student data and progress by utilizing available technology and tracking systems to ensure student success.
3. Uses multiple modes of technology to communicate with students.
4. Tracks required data for Smart Start reports.
5. Provides individual and/or group coaching on issues related to academic success.
6. Complies information on program services, activities, and students. Maintains accurate and detailed records for reporting as required.
7. Designs and coordinates group learning activities to promote student success.
8. Serves as liaison to academic departments.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.

* Knowledge of research, trends and best practices in working with students
* Strong Interpersonal skills to help engage, provide support and motivate students

* Knowledge of specific needs for underserved populations in order to attain educational success
* Ability to assess student needs and provides resources
