Minimum Qualifications

A Master's degree in Sociology or a Master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Sociology from a regionally accredited institution is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products; excellent oral and written communication skills; a self-starter; team player, and the ability to work collaboratively with others is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level are preferred. Experience teaching via distance education with Moodle or another learning management system is preferred. The ability to teach courses in one or more of the following disciplines including Anthropology, Art Drama, Economics, Geography, Health, History, Humanities, Music, Physical Education, Political Science, Psychology, and Religion is preferred. Experience working with a diverse student, parent, faculty, staff, and general public population and bilingual is preferred.

Position Description

The primary responsibility of the Sociology Instructor is to provide instruction for classes such as Introduction to Sociology and Social Problems. The successful applicant will be responsible for course planning, including the development and evaluation of these courses and their assignments. The instructor will serve as an academic advisor and teach the College Transfer Student Success course as needed and will serve on college committees and participate in college activities such as meetings, professional development opportunities, orientations, recruitment events, and graduations. The instructor will be responsible for maintaining and submitting a variety of academic reports and ensuring accurate and timely recordkeeping. This position will require teaching on-campus, off-campus, and online classes during the day, evening, and/or on weekends and will require other duties to be completed as assigned by the Department Chair and the Dean.
