A certificate in medical interpreting and fluent in English and Spanish are required. Must have experience teaching adults and supervising employees; be available to teach day or evenings for a minimum of 12 hours per week; have excellent oral and written communication skills as well as demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with others. Applicants must be proficient with computer software programs and have a valid North Carolina Driver’s license with a record sufficient to be insured under the Wayne Community College auto policy.
A Bachelor's degree in a health-related field is preferred. Experience providing translation in a healthcare setting and teaching online courses are preferred. A National Career Readiness Certification and bilingual are preferred.
The primary responsibility of the Spanish Medical Interpreter Instructor is to teach students to use interpretive skills according to the standards developed by the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters and the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters. The instructor will teach in compliance with appropriate state agencies, mandated curriculums, program guidelines, and regulations. Duties include evaluating the competency of each student through laboratory or skill practice and clinical evaluations and maintain academic attendance and student records. The instructor is required to travel to clinical sites and to perform all other duties as assigned by the Allied Health Director or Associate Vice President for Workforce Continuing Education Services.
**If selected, the instructor must submit to a criminal background check and drug screening and must meet the vaccination requirements of clinical sites.
